Sundqvist is a gritty forward who can use his 6-foot-3, 209-pound frame to earn and control the puck in impressive fashion. He possesses an ability to play both ways, providing explosive offensive tendencies with an innate ability to carry the puck into a corner and provide ample time for a top line to step back onto the ice.

Explosive offensive tendancies. . . who knew? It begs the question, what exactly is an explosive tendancy? I thought a tendacy was something a person tends to more often than not. Like a vague quantitative statement. Maybe they meant his offensive contributions tend to be explosive? I love the media.

All that said, he's a big kid who can play in the corners so I hope he makes good. Who knows may he'll be good enough to replace / demote Sutter.

That's all well and good about his "explosive offensive tendencies," but is he a "skillful-minded biscuit scorer?"

Fourth line center this year would be outstanding....

As long as they mix in shifts on wing in the top 9, or maybe even some 2nd PP time. The kid has offensive upside, and he's not going to be able to develop it playing 4C if they use it as a checking or shut down line.

I'd look for him as a dark horse to get some time with Sid or Geno as a LW later in the year.

On a team full of forwards who don't play much defense, we need a guy like OS more than ever.

Beau Bennett is going to be on one of the 4th line wings most likely. A reasonably skilled young guy will be on the other. Our 4th line should have more talent this year than it has had in a long time.

If we end up doing that, which line takes important D zone draws? As I see it, our best defensive forwards are probably

Dupuis
Crosby
Sundqvist?

And then Kunitz and PH being about average. So is our shut down line Dupuis/Crosby/PH?

Though I do think a Wilson/Sundqvist/Bennett line might have their moments. We're still short a defensive specialist at forward, I'd have to think we're going to pick one up.

Have a
Kunitz sutter Dupuis line.

Don't expect much more then 30-40 points each but use them defensively.

Shelter the 4th line a bit in Sundqvist Bennet and another player and watch some skill happen.

Then have are top 6 being the top 6 players. With Crosby still taking a lot defensively. Then have Malkin whenever cuz he a boss

You trust Sutter to match up against Getzlaf, Kopitar, Stamkos, etc?

If you gave him good players to play with, yes. He's better positionally than any forward on the roster.

I don't think he's going to hem a top tier center in his own end for long periods of time. He'd need to rely on his wingers for that, but the guy doesn't get scored on very often. That's sort of the primary role of a "shutdown" center.

If he has better wings, Sutter is our best bet for it. Sutter is very good at defense in the right situation. He used to match up against Geno or Sid every time we played Carolina. Sutter and Dupuis could be a pretty good 2/3 of a defensive line. Plotnikov or Kunitz could make a good complement to that line then. For all of his shortcomings, every single player on the team saw his goals against go down when playing with Sutter.

Regardless, our 4th line should not be the ones playing against those top units, just as they never should have been doing it the last few years. As for adding somebody, I really hope it only happens if we get rid of somebody first. I'd like one of the kids in that last 4th line spot.

It's highly unlikely to happen due to the team likely giving Kunitz every chance to get back to the top 6, and Dupuis being a question mark, but a Kunitz-Sutter-Dupuis line could absolutely go up against top lines with each guy putting up 40 points. I don't know of another third line in the league that can boast that.

If the comparisons to Kulemin are at all accurate, I think Plotnikov can play there too. Though most likely putting up less points, he would add a bit more size.

If the rumors that we are going to try to roll 4 lines that can control the puck and generate offense are true, I don't want the 4th line to be made up of traditional 4th liners at all... id rather use players suited to the role than a defensive hitter playing out of his comfort zone...

When was the last time this team had a 4th line that we liked? 1993?

I feel like we had a barrage of AHL'ers making their debuts for us during those 5yrs.

Andre Roy...lmao. Great shot, meh fighter, terrible hockey player.

Ruutu, Laraque, Roberts, Talbot, Kennedy, etc. They had some solid players on the 4th line those years. Even lesser talented guys like Petrovicky, Thorburn and Godard were likable and fun to watch.

Rupp-Adams-Asham was our best line against Tampa in the playoffs. It was all downhill after that.

Does anyone really eat that **** other than poor college kids?

You couldn't pay me to.

They must because they are still around. I haven't eaten there since I was in high school because they were usually the only place open till 2am.
