Ronaldo proved he could do it on a rainy night in Stoke, Messi hasn't.

Fun fact: Stoke City was promoted to the Premier League in 2008/9. Ronaldo moved to Real Madrid in 2009.

Ronaldo played one game at Stoke in the league. It was a 12:45 kickoff on Boxing Day.

Manchester United won 1-0. The goal, inevitably, was scored by...

erm, Carlos Tevez.

The deadlock wasn't broken until the 82nd minute. Stoke had been down to ten men since the 72nd minute.

I watched a terrible editorial on ESPNFC by some English commentator stating that Messi HAD to go to the EPL in order to prove his greatness - because Ronaldo had already done so.

The fact that Cristiano did so as a teenager and we’d be asking Messi to play in the notoriously athletic league in his early to mid 30s appeared to escape him.

He has another five years or so before he has to go to the MLS and earn a bunch of money kicking the ball around in Miami.

I’d think Serie A would be the best fit at this point.

He doesn't need to go England. He's been there for various champions league games and has been every bit as good. 2011 final being the most notable.

Italy does makes sense after you see the the suppose tax differences with Spain and presumably England. Inter have been friendly with him for a while a nearly got him when he was younger.
