Successful Off-season?

Assuming the Wild are able to re-sign the RFAs (including Granlund) and sign any necessary depth players to reasonable deals, would you be satisfied going into camp next year?

Notable Accomplishments:
-Re-signed Dubnyk
-Signed Reilly
-Drafted multiple guys with high-end upside: Ek, Greenway, Kaprizov, Bouramman
-Cut dead weight in Cooke and possibly Backstrom

To put another way, who thinks a trade or two is necessary to get this ready for next season?

I think it is a good point to gauge people's opinions of where this team is. Especially after listening to KFAN the last few days.

Would make a little more sense to wait until after July 1st, but we're obviously not making any big signings so it's pretty much the same either way.

I'm going to say yes. I say give it one more go. We've got a number 1 goalie all year this time. Kids have another year of experience.

If no WCF this year, then we're probably looking at a STL type of situation heading into next offseason. At the same time, look at our division - it's insane. You could make an argument for all 7 teams.

We have no idea what our RFAs are getting and we haven't even hit UFA yet. There are so many things that are going to happen before I can pass judgment on the offseason.

If RGA's and depth are signed, without messing up in free agency, then yes, it's a pretty successful offseason. However, that hasn't happened yet, so we can't decide whether it's successful or not.

I don't know what your purpose is creating this thread not even a month into the offseason, but there's no way to tell if it's successful yet.

It was cool signing Reilly, good to get Dubnyk re-signed, and we had a pretty average draft where we got a couple boom or bust players, but it's still way too early for this.

Because Fletcher reflected that he might be done after Granlund and Co. are signed, which is simple house keeping. I am driving at what are people's thoughts about that.

I am not asking about where people think the offseason grade will be at the end of the summer. We can talk about that in August.

But right now are people going to happy or upset if there is no material trades or free agents for the rest of the summer? If that makes sense.

It's been pretty much what I expected so far. The Wild are a very good team, there was no reason for major changes. Improvement will or at least should come from the young guys.

Losing Cooke and Brodziak does hurt the PK a little bit.

Yeah, but depth signings are not all equal either. Still can't say yay or nay without names/contracts.

Its been an ok off season so far, I like the draft I think he did good there. I'm not thrilled with the 6 year deal Duby got, wish it was shorter but can't do much.

As for the rest of it, its not over yet, FA will come and go and teams will be looking to fill some holes. this is where GMCF could make an impact via trade.

What if GMCF swings a big trade it will affect how this offseason is viewed.

-Dubnyks deal practically made me cringe when i first read the news about its 6 years, but after calming down and looking how its structured im coming around, still a big risk and possible job killer imo, over all I cant say its a bad move atm.

-Reilly was def highlight reaction so far, not quite like the 4th when we got the duo but it felt really good to get practically a 1st round talent in Reilly and get one over Chicago. Really hope we can develop this kid right and get a potential Keith like player out of him.

-Read alot about EK and like the pick more each day, i think he has that consistent 60pt-70pt strong two-way player potential, with the goal scorer mentality.

-Barely read anything about Greenway even tho i had a strong feeling Fletch & Flahr were looking hard at Bittner & him, but from what i keep hearing he does have some skill to his game & potentially above avg IQ which makes me like the pick more everyday.

-Did not read a single thing about everyone else we took after that, but overall so far i think we might have done about average with potential to hit some homers, that would be awesome if Kaprizov, Stezka, and 1/2 of the Dman become big players for us and we finally just hit a home run draft.

-Cooke needed to go, he was basically useless and obvi we could not get someone to take him off our hands... same situation with Backstrom, but now maybe teams that need to hit spend a little or are in a position they wanna take some salary for a low pick.

Overall I'd say as long as we get these RFA's signed to reasonable deals, this off-season could be looked back on as pretty successful.

A place.
I'm waiting to see if we can somehow unload Backstrom on someone.

I hear Arizona needs to make the floor :naughty:

If we magically manage to dump Bäckström to Arizona for lets say, 40% retained, that would be magical.

Re-signings and depth signings aren't enough to beat the Hawks.

It will when they get worse and we still stay the same or better.

Their top players are either same age or younger than our top players, and half of our veteran forwards are overpaid, under performing and no shows in the playoffs whereas the Hawks' veterans show up and excel in the playoffs. We're not getting past them anytime soon.

Well if we're going to get past the Hawks, we need to do it next year, cause history shows they're going to win the cup again the year after that.

But we cant trade for established players because they are old and past their prime and we cant trade for youngsters because they arent good enough and will bust anyway. I like you.

I have no idea where you got any of that based on what I said.

2 things: Granlund's deal needs to be 3m AAV or less and I'd like to see a 3/4 PK specialist C brought in on the cheap ie Santorelli
