Really hope he can play Sunday.

Just gives them more momemtum and belief they can win if hes out. They love that they hurt our depth. They know its a good thing for them.

kreiderbcUpdate, 10:28 p.m.:
Robenhymer adds that Kreider (broken jaw), who is a seeing specialist tomorrow, will have surgery to repair the damage and is expected to be out 4-6 weeks.

Original Post:
Julie Robenhymer at HockeyBuzz reports that Rangers 2009 first round pick Chris Kreider broke his jaw iduring Boston College’s 4-0 win over UNH tonight…

“It happened in the middle of the second period when his teammate, Brian Gibbons, made a clearing attempt along the boards in the neutral zone. Kreider had stumbled while turning around and on his way down, caught the puck in the face. It was apparent immediately that he was in serious pain and headed off the ice as soon as the trainer could get to him.”

Robenhymer adds that he was taken to the hospital, but the severity of the break has yet to be determined. He is out indefinitely.

I found it, it took Kreider a few weeks: He got hurt March 4 had surgery the next week and was back by March 25th.

ST. LOUIS — Boston College got a boost of morale and talent when it learned sophomore left wing Chris Kreider has been cleared to return for tonight’s NCAA Tournament game against Colorado College at the Scottrade Center.

Kreider, who suffered a broken jaw against New Hampshire March 4, underwent surgery the next week and has healed well enough to play.

Kreider (11 goals, 12 assists in 31 games) made it through the entire practice Tuesday, and coach Jerry York said he fared well.

“It was really a boost to all of us when Chris came out and not only put the uniform on in full gear, but the impact he had on practice,’’ said York. “He was really involved in all facets and he just makes us that much better of a club. You need your full arsenal when you go out and play these tournaments because you’re playing now the elite of the elite.’’

Please tell me he can still play...

Depending on the type of fracture, and what type of surgery he has to correct it. If his jaw is wired shut, he won't be able to eat solid food, which is obviously bad.

When Crosby had his jaw wired shut, he missed a full month with his broken jaw. I imagine Stepan's injury isn't anywhere near as bad as Crosby's was.

Lets hope its a non-displaced fracture, and he can be back with a cage/shield sooner rather than later.

just a gut feeling, i think stepan plays in game 4.

guy doesnt strike me as the kinda guy who will allow himself to not play through it. put a full cage, wire his mouth shut.

Considering they didn't find it on the initial scans hopefully that means it isn't as serious.

Has anyone ever come back quickly after suffering a broken jaw? I don't think so.

Adrenaline and lack of swelling at the time may have kept him going, but now that it's had time to swell and there's no adrenaline, I'm sure he's in a ton of pain. Jaw injuries aren't something that you can just brush off.

“@DarrenDreger: NHL would have known the severity of Stepan's injury and yes this will impact the Safety Dept's decision on Prust suspension this afternoon.”

Of course.

Scrubby Rust will obviously escape a suspension. He'll get a 2000 dollar fine instead.

You're so wrong, Loffen.

They prorate the fine based on the player's salary.

More like a $450 fine.

So wrong.

I am the fountain of useless info. If I don't need to remember I do. God forbid it's something important though, then my mind is one giant blank.

Hahaha, oh boy this is not the news I wanted today.

Basically had the worst case for Game 3.

We lost, and MTL took one of our guys out. They can feel it turning and we are in real trouble.
