Gonna be very interesting what happens between now and the TDL. I seriously have no clue what SY will do if Stamkos builds on these last few games and starts playing well consistently in this last stretch before the deadline.

On the other hand it would feel better to resign him but then again if we sign him we're probably gonna have to dump one of the other core guys. You'd also think that if he's performing well his camp is gonna ask for more than before. Also if he's playing well he's most likely going to get a better return if we decided to move him.

I almost feel like Yzerman is going to get criticized no matter what he ends up doing. One way or another it'll be a very interesting 2 months.

Would you be willing to lose one of the triplets for a Stamkos that is performing?

Stamkos starts to get going it doesn't raise his stock much for like 10-20 games considering he spend the first 30 not playing too well and last season being "okay" even tho he was 2nd in scoring in the league(which is still impressive)

Playing well does increase his trade value, someone will pick him up at TDL for a cup run, no doubt about it. They know its a rental and want to make a push for the playoffs.

Yzerman is in a tough spot, but we all know he'll do whats best for the team and the future. Our window is open and SHOULD be for a little while with the core now and the up and comers. We still have a developing Vasi, DeAngelo, Koekkoek, Point, Drouin, Erne.

I 100% want him gone. He's a one dimensional scoring machine. That's ALL he is now. Go to TOR you punk... you aren't leading the Bolts at all

Same with Palat. Better ship them both out. Totally invisible this season. Almost like they aren't even playing.

LOL. Waiting for someone to bite the bait. ;)

Lol I'm totally fine getting on TyJo for his crappy start to the season but criticizing injured players is nonsensical to me. Sorry that someone is only like 80% healthy and clearly looks it ???? If he sucks when he no longer looks like every shift is a huge effort then we can start judging him again. I don't think a single poster on this board believes he magically went from "questionable" this morning to 100% by the time the puck dropped.

I'd rather him and Palat stay out til game 50. Come back, make a push LA style and sneak in. If we dont, we end up with a decent pick and guys that aren't banged up. Rushing them back isn't helping anybody. Johnson looked worse than Blunden, there's no reason to have him out there.

While we are talking about injured players, it makes me realize how much I miss Ondrej.

Let's just tank... and let the players reflect on what they are doing.

Stamkos can suck how much he wants, half the team sucks just as much. Is it because the contract situation that it's hovering over the team like a dark cloud? Maybe... but they should still perform, especially Stammer since he is on a contract year.

Lightning owner Jeff Vinik said at September's FanFest he was "confident" the Lightning would sign captain Steven Stamkos to a long-term deal.

And though Stamkos doesn't yet have an extension, and is just months from unrestricted free agency, Vinik said Monday he feels just as strongly something will get done.

"Absolutely," Vinik said. "I'm sure that this process will work itself out in a good manner."
"Steven Stamkos is a great player, great person," Vinik said. "But as you know, one of the reasons we've been successful with our hockey program is I let Steve Yzerman run it. I let him choose the players, I let him do the contracts. So I think as long as I'm owner here, Steve Yzerman will be making those decisions."
Coach Jon Cooper elaborated on his relationship and communication with Stamkos, who has denied any rift.

"I'm coaching the team, he's leading our team and scoring goals for us and that's what we are here to do and really that's all we care about," Cooper said. "My relationship with Steven, from Day 1, he's been unreal to work with. We couldn't ask for a better captain. When things are going on in the room, he approaches me, I approach him, he tells me what is going on. He's probably the guy I talk to the most on the team because he is our captain. And we've had a lot of success together. I'm pretty proud of him, with all the decisions he has to make, he has performed."

Love Vinik and how he lets Yzerman do his own thing. Thats respect and trust right there.

We keep hearing how Stamkos hates Tampa, hates coop, etc etc and then we get stuff saying he likes coop, or likes Tampa or bla bla bla.. I'm so lost by this whole thing. While we all pretty much don't want to pay Stamkos this thing has been a rollercoaster and I want to get off of it. Regardless of the decision the sooner it gets done the sooner the team can focus on the future.

I don't know what's worse: the Stamkos contract drama dragging out like this for over 6 months or the insufferable inconsistency of our team. This is as miserable as the 2007-2009 days where we traded Richards for spare parts, forced Boyle off the team for Matt Carle only to trade him like a week later. And who could forget the great Barry Melrose? In some ways this is worse. It's like every nightmare I ever had came true.

Stamkos is not a good hockey play now. I was watching him closely last night. He can't get around people. He is a 5x3 or 5x4 specialist. If you can get him the puck in space on the PP, he can shoot and score. You can't pay big money for that, especially in the playoffs when when the whistles go away. He is a minus 8. And playing with Kuch. Johnson was a plus 33 last year playing C with Kuch. Johnson was bad last night but he is not near 100% and is rusty. I really like Stamkos as a person. But it really scares me to see our cap messed up with a one way power play specialist. When was his last 5x5 goal? Probably could look it up but I really don't remember.

Whoa whoa whoa. **** is really bad right now, but let's not go overboard.

Stamkos has had a nice run of games lately and it scares me. I'm worried he's playing himself into a huge contract that will ultimately bite us in the ass. Vinny 2.0. With Johnson being a hot mess of injuries and marginal play, we may feel cornered to submit to Stammer's demands. Honestly, though. If you're going to give a player a contract that sets a new standard for the league, you shouldn't be outside a playoff spot. That's just business 101.

ESPN Insider did some serious analysis comparing Stamkos and Kopitar and the results are not flattering at all to the former.

http://insider.espn.go.com/nhl/insider/story/_/id/14457526/anze-kopitar-steven-stamkos-nhl

Unfortunately it's behind a paywall. I'm not sure how much I can quote. Needless to say it corroborates what we've been saying about Stamkos for months now.
I'd rather pay kopitar 10 per year he brings a all around game then stamkos. But pre broken leg! Stamkos I'd pay 12 per year!

One good game, one bad one, two good games, two crappy ones. Absolutely no consistency.
