You play Kinkaid now until he gives you a reason not to. Whatever you think of him, Cory is worse right now. If Kinkaid allows a stoppable goal a game, Mary lets in 3. He's the worse option. In theory he's the # 1 but with, is it 13 games left, we can't afford to wait for him to regain his theoretical form. Kinkaid is the one who's winning.
I like his battle level. I like the way he recovers from one save to make an unlikely second save much better than Cory right now. I like his youth. I like above all his physical strength in the net against huge forwards barrelling down on him and trying simply to blast him out of position by contact.
If Cory's in net last night, we probably lose 6 - 2.
Really I doubt that Cory is 100% healthy right now. At the start of the season he had changed his technique so that he was on his feet more, dropping to the butterfly later in a sequence, and when in the butterfly was staying more upright on his knees. He was was stronger physically with his legs in that posture when pushing back against a forward trying to jam at the puck in front of his pads. After the groin injury he's much slacker and softer against physical pressure in front of him. He doesn't look comfortable to me physically and mentally his positioning is off.
What is the argument for going with him right now? I just don't see it. Play Kinkaid until god forbid he gives you a reason not to.
