I am a southsider and was there during the whole thing.

We were loud, and we stood for the first period. in the intermission we were asked to sit down and we did. One member was escorted out, i am not sure exactly why. ABout the smoke it was a vapor cigarette i think and the guy put it away when asked. The guy who was thrown out WAS NOT A SOUTHSIDER he did not take his pants off, he took his shirt off.

Och, dunnaeken pahl.

But to be fair family who ran a corner shop i used to go into the son would always refer to it as a "certain persuasion" shop. Coming from Vancouver where that was a no no took me a while to get used to.

Took me a minute to figure out what you meant. I haven't heard anyone say that in a while, but it made my stomach turn whenever I heard it. Once heard a guy inside one of those shops say to someone on his phone that he was in a "certain persuasion" shop. The guy behind the counter didn't even flinch. Weird.

EDIT: I heard yesterday that Irn Bru is banned in the USA. Is it banned in Canada too?

TBH, if people didn't see this coming either you have not been to a Canucks game in the last 10 or so years or you are naive.

Canucks games are way too corporate nowadays mainly due to pricing. I give the Southsiders credit but you could have seen this coming a mile away.

Hell, at the first caps game at Empire, my friends and I stood up from the start and the people around us told us to sit down. There's just a different mentality in this city as far as sports unless you come from that European/South American type background.

It is what it is but like they say, "Rome wasn't built in a day".

Keep supporting the team no matter what happens.

Never know, by 2020 the Canucks might be **** and the only people in the arena will be people in the lower bowl chanting "We're **** and we know we are".

The culture seems less vibrant at Rogers but Canucks have true fans interested in watching hockey. We are not so naive as to assume that crowd noise determines the outcome of the game. We go to watch; to be entertained. I have fun between whistles but the Canucks are not paying me to entertain the crowd and I don't care if people see me on the big screen. Fans who want more noise and excitement ought to consider that it takes away from the real action. Hockey is more complicated than hit, pass and score. It takes concentration and people not standing in front of me to watch hockey. Just ask my kids about the rules when hockey is on the tv.

After all this, I'm a little disappointed to find that out.

I was actually hoping that this would develop and become a thing... get couple hundred of those guys in there at once chanting during play and it could be a pretty awesome tradition to start.

No. I can buy it at the local grocery store here in Comox, though they charge a $1.99 a can.

You've just given me a great idea for a chant, but County could only do it if we were relegated and won the first division again. It'd be much better than "Shoes off for the champions". Especially since 'pants' means 'underpants' over here.

Since this is an OT thread I'll derail it a bit. My first Hockey game (coming from NZ BTW) was a WHL game. I learnt the rules SIT DOWN!!! when the game is in play. And if you need to use the rest room (as you lovely folk say) No matter how much you need to go, NOT WHILE THE GAME IS ON!!!! these things are cultural. The first thing I thought was how easy it must be to get a chant going with the other side of the arena, ah la, ziggy ziggy ziggy, if you are familiar with that one??? Also has anyone seen the Irish crowd in rugby, when a player takes a kick, they go dead silent, anther cultural thing. (Drives some kickers nuts). Any way for those of you who have made it this far in may post, I would like to give the Balmy army a mention, they are fun. I'm not a huge fan of getting drunk and singing at the game myself, they have the pub for that, I actually like a family atmosphere, Not that I've been to Rogers arena.

What's wrong with that?! You couldn't make me keep my pants on after Hansen's goal last night.

But seriously.. Rogers Arena is a joke. You could go to just about any other arena in the NHL and the atmosphere would stack up against ours. (Phoenix, Florida, etc) It's sickening.

Starts with the god awful music and goes from there. Only place I am positive has worse music is Rexall.

All that being said Rogers Arena is MUCH better in the playoffs, in my experience, than regular season.

Still not crazy, crazy but the few playoff games i've been to in the last 5 years have always been great crowd atmosphere right in between the crazy loud and the deadly silent.

Root Beer is similarly insanely expensive over here.

The local grocery store brings in a whole British section here so now I can get all the things that I remember from being a kid over there. Cadburys made with real milk/cream, tablet and host of other stuff. Seems I had a bit of a sweet tooth back then!

Never went to a football game when I was over there so I can't really speak to the singing and chanting except for what my dad has told me. He grew up in Leith and went to quite a few Hibs matches and his recollection of most of the chants back then was that they were not very PG.

Really? Last game I noticed they played some excellent music. They had The Clash, Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam and Jane's Addiction. I'd trade Luongo for their DJ.

I don't mind people screaming, I just hate the people who stand infront of me. If you're standing, then I can't see so I have to stand, which means the person behind me can't see and so on.
