Patty uses "soccer moves" pretty often (relatively speaking). You will see him let a pass intended for him go through his skates (yes, intentionally ) to a teammate

No, but now you watch, the team is finally gunna go on a winning streak and then fall 5 points short of the playoffs also taking us out of a top 5 pic.

We've been out of a top 5 pick pretty much all year. And now that the schedule has become more favorable we're going to win a few more...

But I've been asking myself for the last couple of weeks, what's more important, losing and getting a higher pick or winning and further developing the young defense in a positive environment?

Personally I don't think any individual forward will be as important to the Devils future success than this defense coupled with Schneider.... and with that I think their development is far more important than our next pick.

Welcome to the club, I've been saying this for the last few months

If anything we need volume in terms of forwards, it's not just one guy that's going to fix it unless that one guy's McDavid and we win the lottery, which could happen from any non-playoff spot :P

It's more likely going to be a slower process where we need to hit on multiple high picks (top two rounds) and well-placed trades/FA signings. With some luck we can accelerate the process from building out Nashville-style.

I agree 100%. But selling at the deadline and tanking for a top-5 pick are not necessarily the same thing. We could still sell off some pieces like Jagr and Zidlicky, get some key pieces back, and continue focusing on nurturing our young talent. Those aren't mutually exclusive.

Keeping Jagr/Zids/Ryder/whoever for an extra week weeks and letting them walk for nothing does no favors to anyone.

Oh I agree we should be selling. I still want at least a couple more top 100 picks and a prospect would be nice also.

I'm not sure the value of some of these guys though.

Lamoriello said goalie coach Chris Terreri, who last played in the NHL in 2001, would have been the emergency goaltender if something had happened to Schneider after Kinkaid was injured.

“We had Terreri ready,” Lamoriello said. “We called upstairs and said get him ready and then he went and hid and we didn't know where he went.”

Credit to the fans last night, a lot showed up in less than desirable weather/travel conditions.

Funny how the "Hey, You Suck" chant after Devils goals is controversial to some of our high-brow fans on various Devils fan forums but not even an issue inside the arena.
A lot of kids in the rink last night and none in my section were even phased by it.

To them, sucks is not a bad word, just means stinks, "you're a bad team."
None giggled, none covered their mouths in astonishment, no parents covered their ears.

Now of course the 2nd part of the Rangers suck whistle chant, FS, is another story.
That has no business being said in a public setting let alone at a hockey game.

But Hey You Suck said during the goal song and with the vezulla guy, fans are having fun and it causes no harm to anyone.
Some might say it's cheesy, maybe it is, but so is that stupid yes yes yes ripoff chant the NYi fans do after goal.

Oh, and I can't remember the Devils skating so fast in some time as they did last night in the first period.
They had the Carolina players on their heels for 20 minutes straight.

What a nightmare driving to the game was today. Took over 2 hours when it usually takes 45 minutes but it was totally worth it. Yet again, Larrson is showing he is one of our best D-men. Really felt bad for Kinky when he got hurt but I just read on F&I he is ok and will be back for Monday which is great news. Overall It was a pretty damn good game and we are 8 points out of the wild card race. Weird but true!

The highlight of the night was Lou's comment on if Cory got injured!!!

@TGfireandice

Pure gold

HOLY CRAP! I was just joking about preferring Terreri to Clemmer.

For this to be actually real.....

The swallow part is awful. I can't bring myself to say it and I can say a LOT of things in public. I've gotten to the point where I boo that part. On the upside, I've noticed it toned down a bit over the last couple of years.

I love it. It's a NJ thing.

I think Gionta really gets the team going as sad as it is to say that. I think he makes the rest of them look bad. And I had no idea how fast Tootoo was until he blew by one of the, I think, Nashville or Chicago players the other night.
