Slavin of Hurricanes wins Lady Byng Trophy for gentlemanly conduct
A player who actually exemplifies what the award is supposed to be about.
Few penalties as a defensive d-man is impressive
What a respectful thread title.
More impressive when it's a singular penalty, and even more so when it was a puck over the glass penalty.
Don't usually give a crap about this trophy but very happy Slavin won. A single minor all season long while being, in my opinion, the best defensive defenseman in the league. That's impressive stuff. He must be the first d-man to win it in a while as well. Campbell the last one?
Well isn't that just Darling
Watching his interview now...
Yeah, I bet he is the nicest guy in the NHL
Playing elite defense without taking penalties. Well done, Slavin.
2 PIMS in 56 games, playing his minutes and matchups. Runaway.
Good to see they are finally recognizing defenceman for this award. It was decades between Red Kelly and Brian Campbell, and the latter only came after a failed attempt to give it to Lidstrom in his final year. But seems the voters realized defencemen actually can win this, which is good to see.
Doesn't have a mean bone in his body. But he's still the farthest thing from a pushover as well.
Fantastic player and person. Well deserved.
Well deserved. One of the most underrated players in the league too. A real Ned Flanders, if there ever was any.
you don't take penalties when you are playing good defense.
well deserved guy truly is a gem
Hence why it is impressive
Not many guys pull it off
Thank christ he won.
Here I thought that NYI were going to collectively win the award....
But seriously though, it feels weird when the right person wins the awards. He's who I'd have picked.
Honestly, he was the only choice, and the voting reflected that. It's not even about the PIM. The guy is, quite literally, the nicest guy you'll ever meet.
The only time I've ever heard anyone saying anything bad about him was the weird Twitter crusade that came about when he adopted his daughter.
Which lets be honest;
Is not a real penalty.
well done to him.
This is the first Lady Byng in quite a while that has some meaning. Few have been as deserving for the award as Slavin this year.
Honestly a trophy I would never want to win as a player.
Very impressive for a dman to win it with so few penalties. Slavin is an excellent dman.
Well deserved. Just the second defenseman (Brian Campbell in 2012) to win the Byng since Red Kelly in the 50's.
He surely did
