Very sad that Damien Cox can't read. The award says "high" standard of playing ability not "highest". Nowhere in the description does it say you get extra consideration if you are 2% better than another player lmfao. It says if you meet the requirement of a high standard of playing ability, then out of those people, you choose who has the most gentlemanly conduct.
And even that is still underselling how good Slavin is. As a defensive defenseman he's a cheat code. Able to single handedly shut down dominant offensive attacks routinely without taking penalties. I don't care that he doesn't load up the score sheet with points, the only reason he isn't routinely in the Norris discussion is because he plays in Raleigh and not New York, Chicago, or Toronto.

Oh I 100% agree. Was just trying to point out that a player doesn't literally have to be the "best" in the league to qualify.

Normally I would like a defensive dman winning the award (I like them being kinda nasty) but Slavin is very effective despite not having that so more power to him. That is truly impressive.

Anyone else been watching the flameout of Damien Cox whining for the last 3 days about Slavin winning over McDavid? His argument, of course, being that despite throwing elbows, McDavid scores more points than Slavin, which is, after all, what the award his all about.

No, I stopped paying attention to him shortly after his initial tweet, because I recognized that he was being willfully ignorant in a sad attempt to get views to his Twitter as an equally sad attempt to remain relevant in the hockey world.

I cannot believe Cox still has this schtick going after… what, 25 years now? You’d think there would be a limit to how much a grown man would be willing to embarrass himself for attention.
