You'd be pretty hard-pressed to find non-religious orgs that have these "features":

Original sin (you are a sinner who must repent!)
Threat of eternal damnation/suffering
Purity culture and female/victim shaming <-- routine in secular culture
Labeling homosexuality as an abomination <-- routine in secular culture
Regarding those outside the org as heretics in need of saving <-- routine in political culture
Killing in the name of a god <-- routine in political culture
Slavery in the name of that god <-- routine in political/economic culture

...and I'll bet I left out 500 additional things.

I would argue otherwise. See above.

only humans could be like "Man, that dude came down and saved us from all our sins, healed the sick, fed the hungry, turned the water into wine and showed us the best of humanity" and then somehow manage to turn around and f*** it all up
The dinosaurs were probably worse. That was god's original kingdom but somehow they f***ed it up so bad he decided to asteroid them into extinction and just finally decided to start over only 6000ish years ago. Early returns aren't good though.

I find that kind of all-or-nothing thinking to be....limiting, if not altogether harmful. But you do you. Like I said, it's probably foolish to think God gives two flying farts whether you are part of a church or not.

It's pretty clear that if there is at least one god, none of them give a damn about humans. Else all the religious officials that molest children would be struck by lightning or feasted upon by a pack of wild dogs.

I'm sorry if you don't like the all or nothing thinking, but in some situations it works. For example, if you knowingly support an organization which has covered up child abuse, protected abusers, and enabled those abusers to continue molesting children, and has done so for decades, you cannot be a good person.

Similarly, I don't think someone that identified as pro-Hitler could claim to be pro-Jew.

There's some Sodomites in NC

And Revere used to be called Sodom or Sodom Laurel. As all these furriners gave invaded Madison Co. business and real estate folks had the name changed. Natives still refer to the area as Sodom. Know several folks there.

The municipality I live in was merged into a neighboring big town some time back. Because people generally lack imagination, there was quite a lot of streets and roads that had the same name which caused a need to have either the one in my municipality or in the town renamed.

The good local people living on the Perv Road tried to piggyback the process and have theirs renamed too in the same go, but the authorities denied them.

Matthews will get it because Toronto.

You’re deluding yourself if you think he’s going to win it over Matthews. Cmon fellas we all know how this shit works.

He only got 10 penalty minutes because that's all the time he spent on defense. :sarcasm:

Somehow trying to see how we take this discussion of religion back to where it belongs - food.....back in the day when I went to church with my family, I lived for the after church covered dish lunch.....invariably half of the little old ladies who went there always made two dishes....one, usually a casserole of some type and, of course, deviled eggs. Two scoops of some green shit and a dozen deviled eggs was my go to....Good food, good meat, good God, let's eat.

For me, it's simple. For all the many, many religions out there and the many, many sects within those religions, there's a few core beliefs that most (if not all) of them share. They're obvious beliefs, things that should be self-explanatory, things like "Be kind to your neighbor", "Don't steal", "help the poor", etc.

So, IMO, I think the world would be better off if religious organizations focused on what common ground they have with other sects/religions, rather than focusing on (and condemning) the differences, some of which are really nit-picky things (IMO).

And I figured if there is a higher power, following those core beliefs would be sufficient for judgement, regardless of which (if any) religion is "correct."

Funnily enough, when I wrote an article expressing a similar belief in my (Catholic) high school paper, I was forced to issue an apology article later. Still salty about that, though it's more about the journalistic integrity rather than any religious reasons.

Theres no money in that though.
