Should Ovi get suspended? Is it charging?

I call that hockey they way it used to be, and still should be played. You can call it "gooning it up" if that makes you feel better.

woa woa, have no problem with the scrums, they make hockey great and you clearly missed was I was pointing out. The blue jackets want to play rough but their fans are upset when the caps didnt back down. Its like the bully getting punched in the nose and crying about it afterward. Was simply stating a fact that the bjs upped the physical play, call it whatever you want. hartnell clearly went after Ovi two different times and failed. result scrums.

Staying out of it would be worse from the Jackets perspective. They want Ovechkin to engage. The complaint is that he gets extra help which he doesn't need (being a 240 lb beast).

It's also embarrassing that someone wanted to make a thread about what almost all Jackets fans agree is a routine clean hit, and we now have to debate here about the scrum which keeps people coming in to say the hit was clean. We know it's clean!

he cant control what carlson does and doesnt make contact with anderson until hes free. it all happens in a second or 2 tops. you really think any logic is happening at this point in the middle of 10 dudes going after each other. the internet has made everything dumb

Clean hit, common scrum after whistle... I'm sorry, what's the issue here?

The only time you could ever be mad at Ovie not dropping his gloves is if he did someone dirty or recklessly hurt someone... He did neither, you're ridiculous to think he'd fight a depth player with the playoffs a little over a week away. You're equally ridiculous to think you'll push him around without him pushing back.

This was really nothing. Not sure why this thread is still going?

1) That's not even remotely close to charging.

2) If you're going to swagger up and jab someone in the face without warning, don't expect the guy you just suckered to show restraint when he retaliates.

Ovechkin did nothing wrong in either of these scenarios. The Jackets play a tough game, they can handle this level of physicality without needing anyone to white knight for them.

To be fair, you're arguing with what? two jackets fans?

CBJ needed a game like this before playoffs (other than their star rookie getting hurt). They haven't played physical for some time and just been meandering through the last four+ weeks riding Bobvrosky. Even Torts said in his postgame interview that when Bobvrosky entered the scrum, he wanted to see Bob throw a few. It was nice seeing the CBJ engaged after that scrum, well worth a bloody nose wake up call. Unfortunately, they ran out of time for getting the tiebreaker. Hope they keep it going tonite.

BJ's fans are a reasonable bunch. Seeing your prized rookie go down like that brings out emotional responses. Just the nature of fandom.

He still has a lot to learn about taking hits. And judging from the last two games against Caps, they intend to teach him. Torts seems intent in letting him learn the hard way. Torts said after the game in Washington a couple weeks ago that Werenski needed to learn to avoid those hits and stand up for himself after Wilson lined him up a couple times. He obviously still has more to learn.

No official word, but he's doubtful for start of playoffs. Guessing a separated shoulder.

I think the specific posters you are referring to, are worked up because a likely Calder finalist was injured on a body check. If that same hit knocked Matthews out for the remainder of the season, this forum would be a **** storm. Not a bad hit, but it shows just how physical the game is. Werenski goes into the boards the wrong way there and the result is, his season is over and possibly his post season due to a collar bone or shoulder injury.

The CBJ are trying to send a message that if you finish your checks, we will come at you (so that other teams hopefully don't finish those checks), the Caps are trying to send a message that if you come at us, we won't back down, etc.

I don't think you've been following the discussion. No one is upset that Ovechkin engaged in fisticuffs. That was very clearly what Hartnell and Anderson were trying to get from him.

In a week Crosby amputated a finger, cup checked a player and tried to injure a goalie with a intentional shot to the back of his head; he didn't even get a phone call. Ovi should get the same star treatment, no call.
