Should Ovi get suspended? Is it charging?

Clean hit but later a ***** move throwing hands without gloves while a man is being held back. Anderson jabbed and definitely started the scrum but it was gloved shots and Ovi could have retaliated then but waited until the guy was restrained. I'm a big fan of Ovi and think he's the best player in the league over the past decade and probably the most dangerous shot of all time especially on the wing on the PP but I think it was a cowards move.

You going to completely ignore where ovie is just standing there and gets grabbed and punched before doing anything.

No. Everyone is saying Anderson egged him on. The point is that he doesn't respond until Anderson is being restrained/held from behind. And that he goes at Anderson's face with the butt end of his stick.

He responds immediately, and has no control over Carlson simultaneously grabbing Anderson. From what timestamp in the video can he said to be "waiting" ?

Where exactly are you seeing this? Ovechkin switches the stick out of his initial punching hand (left) before landing a single blow. By the time he's hitting with the right hand the stick is dropped entirely.

Hartnell and Anderson BOTH got free shots in before Ovechkin landed any punches at all, and they were all clean and well-deserved. ;)

Columbus resorted to gooning it up for most of the third period. I am honestly more upset at Holtby getting his mask pulled off than any of this stupid ****.

There is good video of this altercation. Can we get a screen capture of Ov hitting someone with the butt end of his stick? That would clear this right up.

If the exact same events had taken place during the course of the game, except the Jackets had won 3-2, then the Caps would have been the ones "resorting to gooning it up."

Or in other words, it was a tough, physical game with BS from both sides.

What does this even mean?

This is just a "both sides are equally bad because (unprovable rhetorical statement)" argument. It doesn't settle or prove anything.

Clean enough.

Looks like the hits that QB's break their collar bones on when going to the ground side ways with a pass rusher on them.

I wonder if ZW is done for the year.

this seems to boil down to a few posters complaining about the below.

columbus losing

columbus decides to goon it up

caps respond to gooning up

caps werent very nice when they returned the gooning.

if anything Ovi should be given credit for staying out of it as long as he did after the failed cheap shots (hartnell).

I call that hockey they way it used to be, and still should be played. You can call it "gooning it up" if that makes you feel better.

Staying out of it would be worse from the Jackets perspective. They want Ovechkin to engage. The complaint is that he gets extra help which he doesn't need (being a 240 lb beast).

It's also embarrassing that someone wanted to make a thread about what almost all Jackets fans agree is a routine clean hit, and we now have to debate here about the scrum which keeps people coming in to say the hit was clean. We know it's clean!

No,he responds when he gets grabbed and hit. He's just standing there and you can tell it takes a second to register and realize where it's coming from.

I bet Ovie can knock a person out with one punch. But it makes zero sense for him to risk a hand/wrist injury so close to the play-offs. He'd be an idiot to do so.

Is Werenski ok? It was tough watching him in pain like that.

Your post is complete fiction: Ovechkin got punched in the face. He punched right back. Immediately.

You forgot: Blue Jackets scrubs should be able to punch Ovechkin the face, and Ovechkin must respond with chivalry.

Also: Blue Jackets scrubs are entitled to one on one fights with superstars at any time of their choosing. Never mind that it would be beyond stupid for any team to oblige, anyone who doesn't comply with this is a coward.

Might as well close this one up.

That is the point that is being missed here. Some folks think the Capitals ought to risk losing Ovechkin for 5 minutes or 10 minutes or with an injury so that he can be "fair" to their team's mid level players.

No sane person would trade Ovechkin for Anderson or Hartnell, so why on Earth would anyone expect the Caps to trade Ovie's ice time for theirs?

That type of thought process represents an extremely high level of naivety.
