If teams thought Ghost was a legitimate top four D-man, they wouldn't blink at $4.5M, and they'd find some way to clear the cap room.
If teams agree with me that he's a 3rd pair/PP specialist, then they probably didn't want to be on the hook the next two years.
Doesn't mean he's worthless, if the Flyers offered to retain $2M a year (or take a bad contract), they could probably get a decent draft pick for him.

Aside from his Philly metro roots, Gaudreau really isn't a good fit for the Flyers right now. I wouldn't even be inclined to sign him as a UFA because of his likely contract demands. I'd rather try to work out a deal to send Hayes to Calgary. Maybe he'd actually waive his NMC to reunite with his boy and Johnny would re-up in Calgary to be with his loyal pooch.

1 yr at $6.75M cap hit.
No way Flyers would give him an extension over Giroux, who though six years older is the better player.

Who could he beat out in the top 9?
Giroux, JVR, Lindblom. He's more skilled than Lindblom but Lindblom does the dirty work.

He’s already a declining 5v5 player and has poor playoff performances. Just wait for him to be UFA and we’ll see how desperate he is to come home and we’ll throw him on 3rd line and power play

Ideally, you want a dirty work guy on each line, the guy who goes into the corner, retrieves the puck and gets it to a playmaker, goes to the front of the net and sets screens and puts in rebounds. Without this kind of guy, the cycle gets curtailed and everyone is shooting from outside and the goalie has clear vision.
