Pretty much everything is if you want to go with that line of thinking...
It's simply a nice gesture, nothing more, nothing less. Parting ways was never going to be easy.

Well first of all, pretty much everything is. Secondly, it's not simply a nice gesture. They're doing it for pub and maybe to assuage some negativity in response to what happened. They're not doing it because they actually give a ****.

Sometimes people do things for more than one reason.

First time organization has ever done this.

When a man gives 19 years to one Team that's a significant accomplishment in this day and age.

Sure but it doesn't mean that this is done for an altruistic reason either. It's not.

Not only is this incredibly cynical, it's also grossly presumptuous for you to just assume that you know with certainty what their rationale and intent is. It's entirely possible that it was done for both altruistic and pragmatic reasons. That they get the good publicity to help the image but that they also legitimately wanted to do something to recognize arguably the most iconic player in franchise history.

Unless you work for the marketing department you know nothing. You only assume.

I get that you're upset, and you have every right to be. Like Nem said though, there's so much more going on than you could possibly know, and clinging to this stance isn't rational or worth it.

*They do nothing*: How dare they!
*They print a page*: **** them!

Might as well start throwing a tantrum now about the video tribute when Toronto comes to town.

Not really news, but I just counted up Thornton's career salary, and his newest contract took him over the $100 million mark. Somewhere near $105 million now. Thought that was cool.

He joined like not even 10 otger players in the history of the nhl to do it also.
