Thanks. This is what makes the most sense but I haven't seen details anywhere else yet.
Those are big shoes to fill. He'd have to make huge improvements next year to do that.Does he take Soda’s spot after next season?
Maybe Jost will take Soda’s spot. I don’t think Soda will be re-signed.Those are big shoes to fill. He'd have to make huge improvements next year to do that.
Whats his ceiling? Like where do people see him in a year, year and a half?
His ceiling makes me think of Jordan Staal. With the Avs I think you hope he turns into a very good 3C behind a Mack-Jack 1-2 punch but if he hits his ceiling has the potential to be more than a 3C on another team.
So I'd put his ceiling more at 2C than 3C but would say 3C is a pretty safe bet. He'll be 4C on the Avs after (up to) a year with the Eagles.
Not saying I think he'll turn out that well for us but I think saying 3C is his ceiling is selling him short.
Sorry if I posted this before...but can the kid win faceoffs? I am really getting sick of watching this Avs team get schooled in that area every game. The OTL against the Hawks was especially ridiculous.

48.3% last season, 46.4% this season. So...

Well hopefully he doesn't learn from Mack...Bowers practices with Cros and MacK so hopefully he can at least get close to NHL speed on draws. If he comes in dominating the faceoff circle out of camp it'll be very hard to send him down.
Its not uncommon for young teams to be bad at FO's and pretty rare for young players to come in and be terribly great at them.
I get it, but I hate the fact this team is so abominable at them and there doesn't appear to be a quick fix. I'm not advocating them getting a faceoff specialist (we all know how well that's panned out) but I'm still hopeful they try and address it somehow, even if it's nothing more than "Hey Nate, we think you need to work on this over the summer..."
Well hopefully he doesn't learn from Mack...
And Mack has been training with Crosby for quite a few years now and he still sucks at it.
In the normal course of a game I agree that FOs are not that important but they are very important during PP, PK and at the end of periods especially the 3rd obviously. Just look at our PP and how often we first gain control in the O zone with 30 secs already gone because we lost the FO. The opposite is also true during our PP. Look at the great chance Vegas had with a few sec left in the game because we lost the FO after Mack's penalty. Its something players can always get better at and it is an area of improvement for sure, I'm just saying the current situation isn't too shocking and will likely improve over time naturally.
On a macro level though FO's just aren't that important, because even the best guys in the world only win it about 5-9% more of the time.
Don't forget the number of times we couldn't get possession in OT, and lost.It literally costs them crucial time on power plays nearly because nearly every time it gets iced after the initial faceoff. It has cost them goals (most notably that power play goal scored by Seabrook with less than ten seconds remaining on the kill). On a macro scale, yeah, it's not a huge deal, in fact as others have noted they were one of the best FO teams in the league during the Season of Fail, but it's just something that keeps tripping them up, sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. Just find some way to address it.
