John Gibbons is the best manager we've had here since Cito. Period.

ESPN has fallen off the universe in terms of sports. It's all politics and terrible over there. Having an article that says he's the worst manager is complete and total garbage. I've actually gone ESPN-free in all sports and media and IT IS BEAUTIFUL. There are so many other sites that have so much more interesting takes on sports without shoving non-sports related agendas down my throat. Try BleacherReport. CBSSports. FoxSports... Anything is better than ESPN. Gibby is great even if Disney/ABC sports says he's 30th. They've got as much relevance with today's sports fans as the ESPNHL. Remember that? :P

Gibby's just fine. And the 30th ranking is more a reflection on how terrible ESPN is rather than Gibby's management of his club.

They're Jack on Rose's wood plank from the Titanic in the middle of the Atlantic: They may be breathing, but they're already dead.

The espn article is just weird.

It basically came down to "Jays have a poor record in one run games, so gibby is bad".

All the other "arguments" were just filler and fluff. Criticizing him for using too many relievers (when some of the smartest managers do the same) but not enough platoons, but then saying he's used plenty of platoons well in the past. Arguing he should use more intentional walks? wat? And then critizing him for being bad at replay? Really a bunch of nonsense.

Yes, Gibbons has a poor record in one run games. That may or may not be his fault. Stats say that's largely a function of luck with a pinch of bullpen thrown in, but maybe the studies don't take enough into account. It's a rational criticism of gibbons at least maybe kinda.

But the rest of it is nonsense.

And of course, his fellow managers just voted him one of the best managers in baseball.

I kid you not, there is a reason why ALL their on-air personalities are bailing for Fox and other networks. ESPN is a sinking ship hitting the bottom of the ocean. Those personalities who were there could see it for themselves, so they're jumping ship. ESPN hasn't been relevant in years and what we're witnessing is the beginning of the "look at me! look at me!!" stage of their death as a media entity.

nice work.

to get my final rankings I'd pretty much just take that, and adjust for age, level, and defensive upside.

a few other names I might shove in there: Ramirez, McGuire, Encina, Bouchey, Biggio, Jackson, and Yorman Rodriguez.

Hope the Yankees win .. They scare me the least out of the three teams right now.

Sounds and reads like Easy Mode to me.

I thought Heidt and Kelly had two of the more interesting under-the-radar seasons among Jays prospects.

I have a feeling all three of those teams are going to miss and Houston will sneak into the Wild Card.

I would be amazed if DET is not the second (or even first) WC team at this point.

They've got a balanced offense with just enough pitching. Everyone is getting healthy for them at the right time.

I don't see any way Houston gets into the playoffs. Their next 5 series are @ TEX, @ CLE, VS CHI(CUBS), VS TEX, @ SEA. That's an absolute nightmare for a team that's just under .500 on the road.

Fair. Sweeping Texas this weekend will help, though.

I think it'll be close between Houston and Detroit.

I think they are hitting Travis at 9 spot to use him like a leadoff hitter. They want one of the better hitters in the lineup to get on base for the top of the line-up with Bautista, Donaldson and EE 1,2,3.

St. Louis did this kind of thing when they had McGwire going crazy with homers in the 3rd spot. Other teams have done it as well. You sacrifice Travis getting more plate appearances lower in the order... But you have one of your best hitters setting up to top of the lineup after the first inning. I think it is a good strategy. The Jays putting their weakest hitters in the 7,8 spot.

So Sanchez, Dickey or Liriano and Stroman for the Yankees series to lineup Estrada, Happ and Sanchez for the Red Sox series?

Sanchez and Dickey are for sure pitching in the Yankees series. Likely Stroman after that, then that lines it up for Estrada/Happ/Sanchez in the Red Sox series.
