I am really starting to worry that the Sens are going to be off to another poor start and the reason will be Dorion's inability to manage the cap.
He is managing salaries under the cap; however, he made a mistake signing an expensive UFA who is likely not going to be with the team next season 2024-25, and not signing Pinto to a fair contract when cap dollars were available to do so. That is a "hockey roster" decision.

It is inexcusable to start the year without Pinto signed and Norris unable to play. PD has painted himself into a corner here.

Explain just how PD “painted himself into a corner” in regards to Norris.

Did PD personally injure Norris?
Did he persuade him not to immediately have surgery?
Did PD perform the surgery and botch it up?

Norris has been cleared to take part in practice, without the yellow jersey, so has PD been telepathically planting seeds of doubt in Norris’s mind so that he is not mentally able to suit up for the regular season…. Or perhaps using a Vulcan mind meld to keep him out of action?

What a mess

We can't even dress a full lineup due to Dorions mess.

WHERE WAS THE PLANNING?? . He runs this team like a JR B team

Let's be honest here. The biggest mistake was buying out Del Zotto last season. We had zero cap issues last season, we could have buried him in the AHL if we didn't want him on the team, and we would have had cap space to sign Pinto this year.
Made no sense at all, they should have just paid the contract and loaned him out to another team (if anyone wanted him) or had him sit at home

When you have a C with the extensive injury history that Norris already has and a player who's had limited game action over the last 18 months, you'd best hedge your bets.

Instead, Dorion blew his cap space on our 3rd line RWer so instead of having a reasonable replacement in Pinto filling in, we have a rookie and career AHLer slotted to start the season.

As an esteemed former President would say, "Pierre Dorion is a low IQ individual".

This mess wasn't created with one blunder. It's the result of a repeated lack of discipline in his decision making.

Hell, Del Zotto alone represents two totally self-inflicted blows. Why did we sign him to that contract? Nobody was giving him anything close to that, and he was immediately unplayable! But to make things even worse, Dorion buys him out. Why would he buy him out? Dorion knew this was the season that would be tight financially. He talked about it publicly. And yet he buys out Del Zotto because... why?

The man has done nothing to convince me he can intelligently run a cap team. Thank him for the foundation he's built through the draft - credit where credit is due - but it's time to send him on his way.

Everything is temporal in nature. You could say he signed two players that won't be here in 2024-25: Debrincat & Tarasenko.

It would be better for someone to explain why someone would narrow the perspective down to this single thing (Norris injury) versus a wider perspective and all the different trades, buyouts & retention that got the team into this situation. Perhaps the explanation for this is deliberate blindness?

Sens are historically bad in Carolina (15-36-4 - ugly ~30% win percentage) and starting the season without 2 of their top-three centers. I WANT to have hope, I typically would at the start of the season but I think this team starts with a loss before bouncing back during the long home stand.

Most interested to see how Korpisalo does and if the big boys can hit the ground running, cause the team/offence will need to be carried by them in the short term.

DJ Smith already on with his bullshit again with that line up decisions.

Should be:

Tkachuk-Stutzle-Tarasenko
Kubalik-Giroux-Batherson
Smejkel-Greig-Joseph
Kelly-Kastelic-Chartier
