I mean there is an obvious reason, that I won't name because I'll get banned, why he still has support, but yeah. He's washed.
I can’t stand this shit, people have made this dumb accusation on both sides and it’s wildly annoying.

I’ve forgotten about him being an idiot (my personal view), and don’t care at this point, but have been informed that’s why I “don’t like him so much”. Got to love weirdo projection.

I actually have way more faith in a healthy Blackwood than some of his harsher critics here, but it turns out “healthy Blackwood” is an elusive creature rarely seen in wild. (He’s played while not being healthy quite a bit last season and just didn’t play in this one.)

He could play well after this. This game isn’t the only thing to go by, considering he had a ton of rust after not playing since 2/19 and playing that much in general.

And they probably would prefer to not play Akira that much more at this point. He’s a very young, inexperienced goalie, and you want aggressively manage the games they get. It was very unfortunate that they kept having to play Daws last season but they didn’t have much choice at times.

So I’m not sure why some people is convinced Blackwood won’t get more use here and they’re going to ride the 22 year old instead. Teams don’t usually do that.

As you identified, the problem seems to be long term health for Blackwood. The numerous interruptions and rehabs have made it hard to count on him. I don’t doubt he will be better his next game and maybe win a tough game for NJ down the stretch. But history tells us that he is prone to the odd clunker and then he will tweak something yet again. At this point it’s hard to see NJ commit the dollars it would take to keep him. I think most of the posters accept him for what he is and his side gig as an infectious disease specialist is just a trope even if a few make some noise about it. With any luck he has a strong finish to the season and we don’t see him in the playoffs because Vanacek plays well enough he isn’t needed.

I’m going to root for whoever is in net, because I want the team to succeed. At the end of the day, the staff sees something in McKenzie and I’m just a schmo who loves the devils so I’m going to put my trust in the coaches and if they make the wrong choice and it bites them in the ass, so be it; hopefully they learn from it.

it’s not just health or personal/political reasons. last night is textbook blackwood - he made some impressive saves and looked really good at times, but gave up a relatively easy goal because his angle was off and another shot from the blue line because he wasn’t tracking the puck well, it’s not like that was a crazy unusual screen to fight through.

he does that all the time looking great one minute and coughing up dumb backbreaking goals the next. he can’t be relied upon in the playoffs as far as i’m concerned

It's not an accusation if you have an ounce of intelligence to use deductive reasoning and or facts. At the end of the day he did he did what he needed to do and still sucked after. Why is that so controversial? At the end of the day he's a shitty goalie.

People aren’t attributing his play or injuries to whether he got the vaccine or not, the ‘controversy’ is posters accusing each other of either hating him more or sticking up for him to the death solely based on said beliefs rather than on merit - or lack there of - and how those discussions frequently go down the rabbit hole of personal attacks between posters (among other things)

The funny thing is if Devil fans were going to hate on Blackwood for that, he’d have gotten booed rather than a favorite son’s reception when he first played in front of fans after that. But we still hear this trope that people only hate him or love him as a player because of their own beliefs. If he’d had a better last three years nobody would be bringing that up on either side.

I mean I already addressed why he is so liked. But the stats show why he has no business being paid what he is being paid and why he'll be a UFA this summer.

I was never on the "hating on Blackwood because of the Vaccine" train.

I DON'T GIVE A S--T ABOUT THAT.

I give a s--t about his in-game performance which has been absolute garbage for years now and yet he's still being given chance after chance after chance.

I have never seen anyone being given so much rope with this franchise.

Not even Marty.

Yes, I will root for whomever is in net but I will also point out that if it's Blackwood, I am not confident he will play good enough to give the team a chance to win.

And there is a large enough sample size to confirm this belief.

It’s not controversial to be wrong, it’s just not being right.

Ok, Sherlock Holmes, you’re so extraordinarily rational and only use deductive reasoning.

1) Are assuming all people still have emotional investment in this news story and that it colors their opinion of the player, even though I have an example of someone who doesn’t. Me.

I moved on. I assumed at least some others have moved on. It annoyed the shit out of me, I don’t want to get into specifics because no one (including me) wants to discuss this but it doesn’t affect my view of him. He’s a dope but he’s a hockey player not my Doctor.

I never think about at all, not for one second, unless someone brings it up while insisting I (or others) still care about that.

2) Even if it does play a part in some of his defenders view, because they think he’s a victim (for this same dumb reason btw), that’s not the only reason someone could still think there’s a good goalie buried somewhere in Blackwood.

So no, “that‘s the only reason people would defend him” isn’t deductive reasoning, it’s terrible logic.

His career has been derailed by injuries.

“He did what he needed to do but still sucked”? Did you decide to deductively reason away the debilitating heel injury from his performance last season? Because the team played him despite that injury, because when Bernier went down they had no choice, and they rode him into the ground.

And last night’s game doesn’t prove shit, he last played 34 days ago.

Not sure why he didn’t get a tune up game in the AHL because that turned last night’s game into one.

People need to be realistic about the kind of performance we were going to get in this sort of circumstance and not act like it a shocker that he had trouble tracking the puck or that the early goals were ugly.

Blackwood has 17 NHL GP and 2 AHL GP this season, he’s played well in the (now distant) past when he had healthy stretches to get a rhythm going.

How good a goalie is Blackwood when healthy?

We were supposed to find out this season and didn’t.

Though honestly he followed many of his usual trends with the shitty October followed by a better November and great February, he broke tradition with a lousy December though. He’s inconsistent, like all goalies.

Don't care about the vaccination stuff. I might have actually cared if he were a good goalie and had a good season, but it caused him not to be able to play games in Canada and we missed the playoffs by 2-3 points with the Jon Gillies games in Canada being the difference between playoffs and no playoffs last year,
