Is Edm screwed is Lucic doesn't sign there? I presumed the Hall deal was only really done because Lucic was in the bag.

If Chiarelli planned for this and made that trade before hand, then he is a moron. There is no way he made that trade with the assumption of Lucic signing. That would be extremely unprofessional

it's a done deal, that trade sealed the deal. Chiarelli has a solid relationship with Lucic and I cant see Lucic screwing him over like that. Lucic is an Oiler and it'll be a decent move for them for a few season but it will hurt them later on but they'll worry about it then like all the other teams do with these contracts. They need to trade for a left side top pairing d man, a deal around RNH since he's their best trade chip they can afford to move with McDavid and Draisaitl as their top 2 centre man. They need more veteran presents, Oilers should target Hamhuis... I'd offer Edler for RNH but since our owners and GM believe we're a playoff team I'm guess Edler wouldn't be available, but it seems like a deal that helps both teams if the Canucks accepted the rebuild.

Gretzky escorted him into the new arena and they played him a promotional video on the new jumbotron. The video contained 30 minutes of McDavid highlights with play by play done by Morgan Freeman. Apparently Lucic teared up and asked for a pen but Pope Francis told him to "be patient my child"

lmfao  im sure thats the dream man but like i said before only time will tell and we will find out what milan lucic is really all about ;)

Good thing Vancouver got passed over. Too long a contract & terms. Lucic toward the end of the season and into the playoffs wasn't close to being a game changer with some good talent around. For those terms you need a guy who can be consistent going deep and not lose it at the wrong times. He's also lost some of his punch. Recalling the GDT, fans were not happy with his performance. Might be why there's not a lot of Kings fans singing his praises.

He might pony up 40-50 points still but he's not going to guarantee a deep run and leadership and at times he can be a liability and go on long floats.

I actually really like Eriksson to the Nucks if I'm a Nucks fan and being objective. I think he'd be great for you guys.

Lucic fits EDM perfectly, our situation is different than yours.
I agree today tomorrow the year after and year after he is great fit in edm

A tough protector for mcdavid & rest
He can play easily on first through 4 lin es

That should be interesting, two different gears.

Maroon looked great on McDavid's wing and he has a piano strapped to his back when you compare his skating to Lucic. A lot of people think McDavid is strictly an off the rush player, but he picks defences apart in the offensive zone so puck possession players who can win board battles and get him the puck and then get open compliment his game a lot.

Who knows though, if he signs here he might even play with Draisaitl or RNH. RNH could benefit from a heavy board guy, and Draisaitl and him could be a very good cycle line that breaks defences down.

We actually need another RD more than a LD.

This. A big power winger that can put up points like Lucic will thrive with McDavid.

Oddly enough, McDavid seems to match up very well with a big power winger on his line. Power wingers fit better than pure speed/skill guys with McDavid. Lucic doesn't need to have McDavid's speed to form a lethal line with him.

This seems more of a fit at a glance but if he signs it makes sense to try different line match ups.

of course not. Whether Lucic signs or not, we still needed Larsson badly.

With Hall out, we're looking at Pouliot and Maroon in the top six LW spots, and assuming we don't trade RNH, we might put either him or Draisaitl on left wing. This is a downgrade from Hall in the mix, but that just represents a quantum shift in our identity. We move from strength on the wings to strength down the middle and on defense (assuming Larsson can play well and Klefbom stays healthy)

Pretty much. I mean at the end of the day McDavid can play with just about anyone and still be amazing so it doesn't really matter who you put on his wings unless you can find someone with insane chemistry with him its basically interchangeable.

I wouldn't mind the look of a Lucic-Draisaitl-Puljujarvi line. Thats a lot of big boys.

All these Oilers fans counting their chickens before they hatch

Pretty sure most people have been talking hypothetical. Not sure anyone actually believes its a done deal. After all most Oilers fans remember when Michael Nylander agreed to sign here and then changed his mind before it became official even though it had been reported as a done deal.

Lucic's next contract is going to be downright toxic. He'll lose half a step once he get close to 30 and he'll turn into Dave Bolland 2.0.

If they are, it's not wise. And everyone knows why.

But most are playing the odds. Edmonton would be a good fit for several reasons, and given the Chia-Lucic connection, especially in light of the Hall deal, there are positive signs (assuming you believe an overpay on a UFA) that we're high in the running.

Forecasting doesn't equate to asumptions of a guarantee.
