Yeah, that was a really bad scene. Hopefully there have been at least some medical advances since then and it goes well, though I’m not holding my breath.

Back problems as a non-athlete are challenging enough.....as an athlete "full recovery" without nagging setbacks is definitely not promising although lots of medical advances since players like Marke Howe, Ryan Parent and John LeClair had their careers shortened. With the Flyers luck though Coots could become a mere Hak shell of his formal self.

wasn’t Leclair bad older than Couturier? Leclair getting back surgery was hardly a shock considering the abuse and punishment he took. That’s probably why he was never the same. He was a bull in front of the net. You couldn’t move him.

No way this isn't ending in surgery after the season so he misses offseason training then comes into next year fully unprepared.

LeClair was in his 31/32 year old season when he got his back operated on. He wasn't much older than Couturier is. Genuinely concerned for Coots.

Certainly a scary thing to have back surgery. Hopefully this fixed it. Didn't make sense to push him back this year anyway. I think we are at the point with this season that no players should be playing again until they're truly 100 percent.

I don't even care if he's a shell of himself for the rest of his career now. Good for him for getting his money while he could and not going into free agency coming off a major back surgery. That's where I'm at with my Flyers fandom these days, things are going great.

3 months recovery doesn't seem too bad for "back" surgery for an athlete... There are various degrees of seriousness so just using a "back surgery" leaves a wide range.

Someone getting some loose bodies taken out of the knee and someone else having their both acl and mcl repaired are both having surgery on their leg.
