My company instituted a new vacation policy where you can re-submit your resume. I doubled my vacation.

In my email to HR that contained my resume I made sure to quote a higher up on how they valued field experience "soooooooo much more" (double that of office experience). I asked them to consider this when considering my vacation allotment.

HR did not. They must have BCC'd this person because the higher up who said this only claimed to "vaguely" recall the conversation in an email response. And this is supposedly one of the nicer higher ups.

f*** 'em all.

And yes, I know it's me at this point. But they brought this dick-ish-ness unto themselves for how they've treated me.

I think he had a lot going on and needed the break. Maybe even had to move back to Oz?

Cool that he's still rocking.

I hope it wasn't Penguins Reddit...

Still in Canuck land. Took a break, forgot my login details, HF support forgot my request, resent it, all good.

He mean me??

yes :)

Provided a description of the accident to the insurance company today. Told them that I (turning left) went in the right lane as someone from the middle at the same time that someone was changing. I definitely should turned properly (turn into the closest lane before moving over). However, the other vehicle didn't blink and (maybe?) didn't check before they moved over. f***...

Insurance company is probably going to try to screw you. Did you get a police report?

The passenger (of the other vehicle) called the police. However, the police did not visit the scene since there were no injuries to anyone (yet...) and the damage was minimal on both vehicles. A witness came over and gave me the business, but I'm not sure if he gave them his number.

The witness was adamant that it was totally on me since he (standing at the corner of the intersection) saw me make my turn. So, I get how it looked from that angle. However, their vehicle veered into my lane after I completed my turn. I don't think he could see that. I mean, he saw our vehicles make contact, but to say which vehicle stayed in/strayed from their lane... only me and the passenger would have access to that. It's a classic He Said, She Said scenario.

EDIT: back to your question, though... no, I didn't. We exchanged information and they left assuming it's all on me. I kind of sat idle on the road after the impact since a) I've only been driving (2 1/2 years) and b) I just had my vehicle worked on last week.

If the damage is minimal most people pay out of pocket especially if it's lower than deductible. So your rates don't go up. He said she said but you kind of admitted to your insurance company it was on you. Hopefully they work with you. Good luck and keep us posted.

Just applied for an intermediate engineering position at Westinghouse, I can't wait to check the application status for 12 months and never hear a response again

And yes, that's what happened when I applied to work at Westinghouse in 2017, I heard literally nothing and my application status never changed beyond "applied"

I haven't heard anything positive about Westinghouse from the absurd amount of co-workers I have from there. Could be for the best.

Also, I think my cousin is the HR contact there. At least she used to be. Never met her.

That's valid, I've heard mixed things about working for them. My sister really liked it, but I've heard people who worked in Cranberry weren't crazy about it. I'm only going to go there if they offer me like $10k more a year than what I'm currently getting, so I don't think it's super likely.

More specifically, the engineers I know who came to the oil and gas industry did not like it.

Yeah my sister was an field service engineer at Waltz Mill, I think it depends on what location your'e at. A lot of the bad things I've heard were from the corporate site in Cranberry, and the problem is the job that I applied for is in Cranberry. We'll see where that goes though. I was looking at other jobs on LinkedIn and it just seems like everything else is so underwhelming. What's kinda funny is that my sister was a field service engineer who traveled a bunch, which is exactly what I wanted to do out of undergrad. It looks like that area is hiring again, but I've grown past the point of wanting to travel for work

I also sent out an application for Aerotech tonight. I'm kinda underwhelmed by the idea, but I figured I'd send it out. I've actually been somewhat interested in being a combustion engineer for an oil and gas company, so I'm curious to hear your opinion on that. My mechanical master's focus is in heat transfer, so I do have some background in that area.

Unfortunately at my company it's who you know and **** ***** *** *** *** *******.

And no one is hiring.

But, based on what you said there's certainly need for you in the oil and gas industry. Maybe wait half a year? (until the end of winter)

I lucked into the industry. And thankfully all my years it has treated me pretty well. Just not appropriately for all the work I've done in the last 3 or 4.

Surprisingly, my name is well known in Appalachian Oil and Gas. Which is scary. My dad has run into people at casinos who know our last name because of me.

I don't know what this means, but I'm guessing that it's not good based on the fact that it's all censored

I'm just curious, were you chemical or mechanical? I vaguely recall saying you were chemical, but I'm not sure. I'm just trying to get my name out there in the thermodynamics area, I don't want to be stuck between a couple of different nuclear industries forever. That's actually a part of the reason why I declined the offer to pursue the doctorate, I didn't want to get locked into one specific area because of my early career decisions.

I just want to live an easy and relaxing life in the southwest USA. And before anyone asks why southwest USA, I have no clue but I just want to live in the Phoenix/Tuscon area

Just sent of my submission for my final Worksafe appeal which is going to an independent tribunal. 4.5 years after my brain injury! A big weight lifted of my shoulders. Still have to wait until April for the decision but done all I can and hopefully never have to deal with those ****’s again!

Some beers on Saturday for the Edmonton game sounds like a plan (or some Amatetto Sours)

Never got all the talk about Billy Joel. That's my hot take for the week.

My friend flew from Australia to New York to see him at MSG. Said it was the greatest. I certainly wouldn’t travel that far for Billy Joel. To be fair to my friend he came to see me in BC after which is obviously worth it

Fix You is one of my favourite songs of all time. Just found this version of it and it’s pretty good!
