A missed opportunity to call up Kurtis Gabriel's gf Mikayla Demaiter if you ask me.

If this is true then Dubas should be fired on the spot for putting then in such a bad spot cap wise.

Quite the opposite - this is how a smart cap team runs a roster right up against the cap - by understanding the emergency recall rules perfectly.

One game without a backup triggers the ability for the team to now call up Hutchinson until mrazek is back even though that technically takes them over the cap.

Ya Dubas should’ve predicted nearly 20 million in short term injuries…

This is literally a fluke happening and no amount of cap planning would’ve prevented this.

You have no room for Hutch making the minimum so you bring in a college goalie. Who could have predicted one of two goalies with a history of injuries, gets injured? Did we have the same problem last year when Andy and Soup went down ??

One game with no backup allows them to call up Hutch indefinitely starting tommorrow, even though that technically takes them over the cap.

Once again our smart front office is using all the rules to maximize capspace and exceed the cap limit.

Exactly.

People are panicking and saying cap mismanagement. It's actually cap management at it's finest.

Hilarious the lengths people go to defend this gong show. No harm if Campbell can finish the game, if he doesn’t :help:

They should have used David Ayers

One popular spin doctor on this board has claimed numerous times that we are not in cap hell. Yet here we are.
Well, you may think so. But that doesn't make it true, or real.

Leafs are 5th in current cap hit......of the 7 Canadian teams, and with 22 on the roster. The only ones lower in cap hit are Calgary and Ottawa. Middle of the pack overall.

CapFriendly - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

But we can use unsubstantiated hot takes as "truth", I suppose.

gotta say it's pretty interesting if Lilly is in fact paired with Muzzin, instead of Dermott moving up into the top 4.

good sign for Lilly, not so much for Dermott.

exactly.

once again, leafs nation embarassing itself.

and it takes a Canucks homer like Drance to point educate them.

Sure it is brilliant cap management, but let's hope Soup doesn't get hurt and the Leafs don't embarrass themselves.

Not really. Pretty risky to go with two rookies on one D pair IMO.

Worth noting that Liljegren played with Muzzin in preseason, while Dermott did not.

I highly doubt they are going to give Liljegren 20 minutes right out of the gate. Dermott will likely get his fair share of them too.

If Dermott does not get more minutes today, then Keefe is terribly mismanaging his lineup.

It'll be very interesting to see the minutes.

This is the first time ever that Lilly is getting a chance on anything other than a strict bottom pair.

And not only even strength - but the PK too. Lilly was a big PK guy in the AHL and was in the games he played in the preseason as well - and the leafs have never liked dermott on the PK much. If Lilly leapfrogs Dermott even on PK duty than it's really not looking good for Dermy.

How brilliant can you really be when you gave up a first for a guy with a bad back, who scored zero goals for us, because you needed the 50% retention because you're overpaying Marner by $3 million per year.

If we went 11f - 6d - 2g, which we could easily do, this would be a non issue.

Management and coaching have instead chosen to go 12-6-1 for the obvious reason that there's approximately a 98% chance that nothing goes wrong and we can still run a full team, minus a backup goalie.

Honestly it's smart if you think about.
Too bad half the people here just say "bleh Dubas" before their braincells start to function

Seems like a risky way to show your brilliance. Rather they have done it with a forward

easily could have.

just waive Amadio down and call up Hutch, play 1 game short 1 forward and then emergency recall the forward.

they preferred to go with no backup instead of a forward short, for one game.
