As somewhat of a numbers nerd, I'll point out that each incremental game in the 82-game season was worth ~1.2% whereas each game in the 56-game season was worth ~1.7%, so they are "statistically the same" as the difference of 1.0% is smaller than the increment of resolution. A full season's pay for 80% of the games isn't a bad deal at all.

edit: do we even bother adding Jack Eichel's name to this thread? ...Didn't think so.
