As long as he is active, RC will continue to run him out there for big minutes. He's got him on the PP, for crying out loud.
Mike Scioscia is probably smiling about that at least one of the Anaheim team still has Veteran-itis

4 goals 2 assists 6 points in 27 games so far this season. 3 goals and 1 assist came in his first 4 games of the season se hasn't been doing anything for a while now I think we need to give him a rest or something.

The way he plays and produces he has become an extremely overpaid 4th line center.

I know he wont do it because there is so much money on the table but he really should consider retiring due to his hip. He looks like he is in pain all the time.

When we signed him to that albatross contract we knew it would bite us sooner or later: well, it's coming back at us sooner than expected. He may be in pain out there, but it's a pain for us fans too to see him playing that way. :help:

He's not getting better, but he's not getting worse. This middle ground is what I wad afraid of. He looks like Mike Fisher around the time he retired.

So 20 points, -15 rating in his last 71 regular season games.

He's got 3 years left on his deal after this one.

I'm very curious how long of a leash they give him after this season. This was supposed to be his bounce back season

If he were to go on LTIR for the rest of his career, he would still get payed but insurance would cover 80% of it & the cap hit would be less & he'd be tradable to a salary floor team looking to acquire a Cap hit that they don't have to pay as much money to. The same way the Flyers were able to move Pronger's contract & the wings moving Datsyuk contract.

The way he has performed, Steel or Lundestrom could easily out perform him if they were called up & Kesler went on LTIR cause it hurts too much to play.

Insurance will only pay if they were able to get his contract covered. Firms do pretty in-depth risk assessments on those before approving.

I am pretty sure Stephens mentioned at some point that 80% of Keslers contract is insured.

Yes thats where i got the 80% thing from.

I had heard that in final year of his contract it turns into a NTC meaning he can be selected in expansion ? So maybe in a pre expansion draft trade Seattle will agree to select him in exchange for another player & Not pick Manson or Montour. Meaning Larsson + another player ? Basing this on Theodore being a better prospect than Larsson.

Our 4th line is a better shut down line than the Kesler line right now, just that our couch hasn't understood it yet.

I really hope Kesler can battle it out and become better. He's done so much for the team. Just lower his time on ice for now. He is currently 3rd in TOI among forwards after Getzlaf and Rakell.

this.

One thing Kesler has shown at times this year is he seems to play better after a few days off. He's getting way too much ice time. I actually have no issue with leaving the Cogs-Kes-Silf line together. Carlyle just needs to stop insisting that they come out every time the other team's top line does.

But yes, Kesler is a 10-12 minute player (including PK time) and an end of game faceoff specialist at this point. Which means he's basically last year's Antoine Vermette. Gross

I mean, I'd rather have an IKEA futon behind the bench than the Randycap at this point.

If they fire Carlyle he can go do Karaoke with Mike Scioscia, they'd be singing to the tune of "We are stuck in the 1980s & we won championships with Anaheim teams. We play useless veterans in big roles"

This guy sucks. I focused on him on purpose this last game just to see man he is literally just going through the motions, he does nothing at all. Poor guy is done, at least he stole all of our money though.

I could have sworn they said they would rest him if he wasn’t playing at 100%. He needs to take some games off if his body is still banged up.

I wouldnt mind giving him some rest and a 3 game stint by one of our rookies in SD. Give him a week off every month.

I know it won't happen, but a buyout would be the best thing for everyone. Kes still gets his money and we get better by not having to ice him.

Kesler's contributions no longer match his salary but he is not a minus on the ice.

Games like tonight are probably the toughest on his body, and in retrospect maybe he should have rested. Still, he has looked much better of late and this game shouldn't define him.
