This new lottery system scares the **** out of me.

Seems to me that people around here are just realizing the potential of things going wrong for whoever is in the basement. I think the worst outcome would be
1. Montreal
2. Ottawa
3. Calgary
4. Edmonton
5. Toronto

Next decade of Matthews and Laine in the same division? No thanks.

On top of already having Eichel and Barkov here as well.

I ran the simulator 100 times and we got 1st overall 15 times and top 3 38 times. This system is a massive crapshoot.

God I hope we get Matthews

Pretty accurate then. Today 86.5% chance someone other than the leafs pick first, or 13.5% they do. You got 15% on a 100 tries.

the league went from one extreme to another. They tried to fix the draft by getting more "movement" and it not becoming so predictable when teams tank. But when they did it they made it almost impossible for the crappiest team to win. Like we've been God awful for the whole year yet we only have a 20% chance of winning?? like that's ridiculous. It feels like it's almost more beneficial to finish 27th-25th rather than 30th.

I'm not even expecting Matthews at this point.

What I do kind of want is to end up 4th and draft Chychrun because hopefully Oilers have to pick another forward at 1-3 or end up 5th.

But this simulator could turn out better results by seasons end if we sell off our UFA's and plummet.

The simulator right now is going by win percentage and we have a few games in hand. If Leafs keep going south and secure last place this simulator will favour us more often like it does with the Oilers right now.

If we trade back 7 spots, it better not be to add Klas Dahlbeck. I'd go to Toronto and egg Shanny, and Lou's houses myself

There is only 1 thing that would make it even better and that would be hearing the words "With the 1st pick of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, the Toront Maple Leafs are extremely proud to select Auston Matthews!" Or "Thank you Gary for rigging the lottery so Kevin Lowe didn't win again this year"

For me the lottery went Calgary, Vancouver, Columbus. Pretty gloomy. That left us picking 5th.

1) Calgary: Auston Matthews
2) Vancouver: Patrik Laine
3) Columbus: Jesse Puljujarvi
4) Edmonton: Jakob Chychrun
5) Toronto: Matthew Tkachuk

Would have been nice to at least be #4, and get Chychrun, but I don't think Edmonton would pass.

Move both goalies. Pickup a free agent tender, or a waiver claim during camps (Enroth, Hiller, Khudobin).

Sign a cheap UFA (or two) on a one year deal. Reclamation project types like Sam Gagner, Tikhonov, Brouwer.

Make a run at Stamkos. If he signs, trade one of Bozak/Kadri or both.

Consider a buyout for Lupul.

Well, one can hope this is how it plays out for the Leafs.
My 1st attempt:

1. Leafs
2. Oilers
3. Flames

An all Canadian top 3, sadly.

Matthews would be unreal, but seeing the Oilers pick that high again grinds my gears.

Toronto picked 3rd in my sim behind Edmonton (of course) and Columbus.

Leafs draft Pulj at 3.
Sign Stamkos
Sign Zaitsev
Resign Parenteau one year if cheap, let Pulj tear up the AHL like Nylander.

Trade Kadri + Pitt 1st for Shattenkirk and STL 2nd. Steep price but we still get a pick and Shattenkirk is the better player. STL gets centre they need.

alternatively

Kadri for Severson and a 3rd.

JvR Stamkos Komarov
Lupul Nylander Parenteau
Michalek Bozak Marner
Leipsic Holland Brown

Reilly Shattenkirk
Gardiner Zaitsev
Harrington Hunwick

or

Reilly Hunwick
Gardiner Severson
Harrington Zaitsev

Who knows with goalies. Maybe target Freddie Andersen? No matter what it will be a transition year but that team looks a lot better than the horror show we have right now.

Leafs Home Board
Vesey is a UFA and not eligible for ELC,

The UFA status only determines which team he can sign with, but due to his age he is still need to sign a ELC with any team that does sign him.

ELC is based on your 1st NHL contract in combination with your age at the time of signing to determine the # of years in length your ELC would be.

Tyler Bozak in the past was a UFA signing by Leafs and his first deal was still a ELC contract for example and bound by the restrictions of the CBA.
