Meh... I prefer...

I remember when the Oilers twitter account used this picture a few years back with a caption like "Happy Canada Day!" and it was like I had popped a Cialis.

Seriously, it's like looking into the future.

I wouldn't be against any of the 3. Having them paired with Nurse would be a formidable top pair. Include a hopefully healthy Klefbom and Larsson on the second pairing completes the top 4 D core.

It would you're right.

Jones and Hamilton are both better d-men though imo.

I mean... I'm acting like any are realistically attainable. I'd gladly take any of them if presented the opportunity.
Pretty much the last part. All of them make us better and we should take any of them barring massive overpayment in trade capital or contract.

I hope we do not protect klefbom and he gets picked I think you could sign mike reilly or goligoski for cheaper. We have no idea how klef shoulder and how long it will take for him if ever to get back to nhl mid Orton pairing ability. If he is shy to physical abuse etc.. it will make him less effective. I don't think kraken takes him for these same reasons, Jones being younger if he is unprotected is who I think they take.

Kassian(NYR/PITS), Koskinen(Raanta deal/JVR deal/buyout), Bear(packaged with Neal/Jones deal) and Neal out(expansion or team with cap)

Saad(5)-McD-Palmieri(5)
Benson-Draisaitl-Yamamoto
McLeod-Kadri-Poolparty
Goodrow(2.5)-Khaira-Archibald

Nurse-Hamilton(7.5)/Jones/Barrie(5.5)
Murray(3.75)-Larsson(3.75)
Lagesson-Bouchard
Jones

Raanta/Mrazek
Smith

Flame away

Edit:swapped out JVR for a Saad+Palmeiri combo on McDavids wings. Basically comes down to JVR+Tatar or Saad+Palmeiri

I was drawn to the Panthers after reading this article. They're pretty tight to the cap as is.

The Hockey Writers Edmonton Oilers Could See Keith Yandle as This Year's Tyson Barrie 1 week ago

I won't lie. It's an interesting idea. But for me to even consider taking on Yandle's contract, it'd have to be dollar in/dollar out with one of Kassian or Neal going back the other way.

There's a significant Tippett connection there, so it's probably not out of the realm of possibility.

I feel like there's very few players in the NHL that would have less interest in playing Edmonton than Yandle.

What top-4 LHD has the name "Murray"? I don't of any defenceman with that name that is good enough to earn 3.75M.

His first couple seasons were pretty decent considering he was mostly playing 3rd line with 2nd unit PP time. Obviously this past season was a nightmare, and that's after having missed an entire season due to his injury issues.

But I think there is probably a 3rd liner in there. So yeah... maybe not high end skill. But still potentially a useful player and one who could fit a role here. I'd inquire about him.
Yes, could be a smart reclamation project. Players returning after that type of lay off tend to have a rough first season. Holland better do due diligence on his current health though.

JVR is not a bad option if Philly wants to shake up their forward crew and/or make some kind of run for Eichel/Jones etc.

Two year term next to McDavid would not be bad.

Ryan Murray? He's had one healthy season in 7 years. May as well bring Klefbom back instead
One of them has missed last season, the other played sound defensive hockey on a terrible team. Klefbom won't be back so that spot may be marked for Russell, Jones or Koekkoek which I'm not overly fond of the idea.

Who would be your target for that spot

Martinez would be my top target. Oleksiak and Goligoski secondary targets. I'm also curious what happens to Dunn in St. Louis.

I would 100% pick Klefbom if I were Seattle and he were exposed. I don’t understand the willingness for some people to leave him exposed. He’s a top 2 defensemen when heathy and unless management has some very inside info that is not worth the risk giving up

I believe Klefbom is owed 9.6M in salary over the final two years of his contract. The NHL is a business and I dont see Seattle ownership wanting to pay almost $10M for someone who could never play a game for them.

I'd rather have Dylan Strome than Nolan Patrick.

He had an impressive 51 points in 58 games his first year in Chicago, it's just gone downhill there for him and with Toews and Dach there he doesn't really fit.

Has chemistry with McDavid, they're best friends so that doesn't hurt.

I think his confidence goes up and down but next to Connor and given a spot on our PP with Draisaitl too, he could rack up a steady diet of points and find his groove.

The cost would be significantly different for these two players. Not really a comparable move.

I don't think Philly is going to give Patrick up for just peanuts, he's probably going to be package in a bigger move (like Eichel or Jones) or they will want a late 1st back, but I think the same 1st + Benson or something lands you Strome instead.

That is plainly a bad trade . Patrick is damage goods in more ways then 1 . He worst then Yakupov when we decided to trade him . Samorukov had a great year going in the KHL until he got hurt . He will be on the Oilers sooner then most fans think .
Well nolan patrick can be salvaged. What if turns out to be like dylan or ryan strome? Everyone here thought the stromes were done. Gambling a second or a third in 2022 for nolan patrick would be a low risk play.

Possibly. Just putting it out there. Tippett did coach the guy for a number of years in AZ. Gretzky coached him, too. If Florida's moving on from him in the summer, odds are Yandle's agent is negotiating it.

Straight up Neal for Yandle trade would benefit the Panthers because Yandle's deal is an unattractive buyout.

I wonder if Carter Hart would be available.

I think there is a decent shot he bounces back from this down year; while his save % and goals saved above expectation are atrocious, the thing that sticks out to me for Hart is that his low and medium danger save percentages are basically right where expected, it's just his high danger save percentage that's out of wack. And when you look at the numbers, all of their goaltenders are just getting brutalized by high danger chances.

I think with a club like Philly this year that just bleeds goals, a lot more of those high danger chances are good looks with puck movement. I think you throw him in front of Tippett's Oilers and he's a rock star again.

Also would be interested in JVR.

Big no to Dylan Strome

cement boots, and he sucks ass on the wing

Yeah. Plus we already have skill; we need forwards to break the trap and create time and space for McDavid come playoff time.

That means big strong fast straight line guys that can create havoc on the cycle. Dylan Strome is... not that guy.

It might actually work for Florida as Yandle was 7th in TOI / Gm for them in the playoffs. Clearly, he is not an important part of their team any more, at least to the coaching staff
