Makes sense. Then he can keep his place in Florida and keep that nice low tax rate.

He’s looking like an absolute stud, but come on. His floor is basically McDavid? The best player to come along in the last 30+ years… MacKinnon was the next mega star, and he’s never even had a 100 point season.
unless the tax law has changed--he will be paying Canadian/Edmonton Taxes

with the JG contract with the flames the fact there is 61.5 in signing bonuses that crack me up

Jonathan Huberdeau signed a 8 year, $84,000,000 contract with the Calgary Flames on Aug. 4, 2022. The contract has a cap hit of $10,500,000.

In other words, it is structured similarly to Lucic's. I can see no downside to this

Is there not a maximum 50% AAV/salary requirement?

Does his example not break that rule?

Edit: It appears the way the rule is written that it may be taken either way by the league at any given time.
The rule is that any contract can be retained at most twice and each retention can be to a maximum of 50% of the amount the retaining team is on the hook for. So 50% ->50% = 75% retention is the maximum you can have.

Tkachuk had a Cheechoo like season. He ain't coming close to 104 points again. He also isn't 2.5M better than Kadri.
tkachuk Is only 24 and goes from being a complimentary player with gaudreau to a complimentary player with barkov. Are you sure about that?

Kadri is 32 and has been a so so top 6 guy all of his career except last year on a stacked Avs team. unless huberdeau and kadri can fill the void left by gaudreu and tkachuk production wise (they had great chemistry), I think they might struggle more than ppl realize. But, we will see. We can make predictions all we want but we won’t know until the dust settles. 🤷‍♀️

Said it before. Three guys who score 40 and another with 35. It's not a terrible bet to suggest they might have zero 30 goal guys next year. There's a lot of goal production that's unaccounted for looking at that roster for next season.

Watching reaction to the Flames doing things and the Oilers doing things is almost a social experiment.

When the Flames do things (anything really), pretty much everyone outside of Edmonton does back flips. Proclamations of the “best team in the Pacific/Canada/West/Leage, better than last year!!!!, etc.” Doesn’t seem to matter that the Flames never actually produce a result, but the accolades get showered regardless. I think that saying the Flames are about as good as last year is defensible, but what seems to be the overarching narrative is that they are now “better than last year!!” I have no idea how anyone can come to that conclusion at this point, especially an overwhelming majority. But it’s the Flames, so.

Meanwhile when the Oilers do anything it’s “that deal won’t age well!” “Campbell isn’t any good!!” “Kane will ruin the room!!!” Etc, etc.

People hate the Oilers and they don’t hate the Flames, I get it. But it’s just comical to me how obvious the bias presents itself. Just makes it more enjoyable when the Flames inevitably fall on their face.

We committed the "crime" of Toronto/Phoenix/Buffalo/whoever the f*** not getting McDavid.

f*** 'em. I don't recall any of these f***ers sending us sympathy when we had Pronger ripped away from us after doing everything the right way under the salary cap.

There’s a lot of ongoing jealousy from other Canadian fanbases with the Oilers having the most recent Canadian dynasty. Which is ironic since a lot of those same people would say “well that’s so long ago so who cares!?”

Meanwhile, the Flames have their one Cup which makes them slightly more ‘relevant’ than the other Canadian teams that don’t but they aren’t a big enough franchise / fanbase so it’s easy for the media and casual fans to get behind them as they’re pretty ‘harmless’ otherwise.

If they didn’t win that one Cup they’d probably get a lot less hype, which is interesting. Probably get the same amount of respect as the Jets or Sens. Canucks at least have a big market and had an actually dominant team when they had peak hype.

Kadri put up 35 points over his career average last year at 31 years old.

It isn't Tkachuk that you have to worry about crashing back down to earth next season.
The one thing that can be said about Kadri is that he's never had this much responsibility placed upon him. It could go either direction. But the level of support he's going to receive isn't looking outstanding. Huberdeau, Toffoli, Mangiapane and Coleman. Not the deepest group of wingers.

Big shoes to fill for Coronato or Pelletier.

This is not true- coaches do not play their best defensive players on the PK. The coach plays people who are good at that skill (PK) in that position. Sometimes it is the best defensive player sometimes it’s not. Being elite defensively 5v5 is very different than playing a highly strategic system like the PK
Your throwing the term “elite defensively” around like your a leaf fan…..

Does the term “age curve” mean anything to you?

Tkachuk is getting paid for his absolute prime years. Kadri is getting paid for what was most likely his prime year as a 31 year old.

Again, have you always loved Kadri this much or has your summer been so boring that your looking to kill time on Hf by arguing this for 2 days straight?

This elevation of Kadri to borderline superstar since this contract was signed is f***ing hilarious. The guy peaked as a 2nd line Center and was a 3rd line guy for a good chunk of his career.

But suddenly, a player who just turned 32 is going to pace at nearly double his career average to make good on his contract?

Is there a single player in nhl history who started to double their career average in points after the age of 32 and then did it for the majority of the next 7 years?
