I don’t really think Broberg is a particularly promising prospect or great D-man. But for anyone saying he needs to play better…

How?

Knoblauch has played him in 2 games over a 3 week stretch. He only got 5 minutes in the second game. It’s not like Kulak or Desharnais are playing so well you can’t put one of them in the press box.

This organization is just a f***ing disaster at developing players.

I watched every minute of every playoff game, Bouchard was crap defensively.

Great on the PP, but a total non-factor other than a liability defensively outside of that.

The plus minus just reflects that.

In the longer term, can we even keep this player? Yes he puts up point totals, but you're also going to pay dearly for that. His next extension which isn't far off will start with an 8, quite possibly a 9.

Where are you getting the money to pay him that and extend Draisaitl, AND find money for a legit starting goalie and upgrade the D?

If you can sell high on him now and get a young franchise goalie and then get a half decent offensive D for nothing in Barrie who already fits well with the group, it should be considered IMO.
Plus minus reflects that. :skeptic::skeptic::skeptic::huh:

So in the playoffs last season all of our 7 d-men had a negative plus-minus except for 2, Kulak who played great, but at $2.75M is supposed to create a mismatch against weaker competition and then Broberg (in limited minutes) who you just called a bust.

Then examining his plus minus (an absolute garbage stat).

At 5 on 5 he had 9 GF and 10 GA
On the PP he had 17 GF and 1 GA (a bloodbath)
Then we got scored on twice with the goalie pulled 2 GA

So a net negative 1 5-on-5 after being bounced by the SC champs, then hugely crooked numbers on the PP, but none of those GF count, but the shorthanded GA surely does. Then we allowed 2 GA with our goalie pulled. Then the absolute cherry on top is you always always always bitch about how awful our goaltending is and it was extremely bad in the playoffs, yet plus minus is the telling stat for defensive play, when our goalie is made of swiss cheese.

I think Broberg has some promise mostly due to his skating ability. We dont have the option of developing him at this time. We need wins due to the predicament we are in. Lots of Vinny haters due mostly because of his unorthodox look. Maybe he doesn't pass some peoples eye test but this guy has huge upside and more closely resembles what we need at this point in time. He is very effective even though some may not see it.

Broberg needs more time to develop at the NHL level to find out what he truly is. Hes had some nice moments that shine some light into what he “may” end up being.

Wyatt Johnston said Coffey was the biggest influence for him being an NHLer. Interesting.

Bob says he was STUNNED when he heard Bourgault was the pick.

Says Oilers would have taken Cossa for sure if available.

We thought that about Puljujarvi too.

A player's ability(or lack thereof) gets around the NHL pretty quick these days.

Jesse had played 300 games by the time he was traded. That's a good reason why his ability was already determined.

Broberg is still at 79 games played. There's going to be a lot more "what if" that still remains in the eyes of other GMs.

If this team can continue to get its shit together and stretch this 4 game streak into a 10 game win streak let’s say, and we can take the pressure off of making the playoffs.

We could then play Broberg in place of one of the regular to try to pump and dump him.

Winning solves so much problems in this sport. Oilers better have their work boots on after this break.

Take that and run. Run fast, take steroids, get the f*** outta there.
There is a bigger deal to be made between the oilers and the blue jackets that involves both Campbell and Broberg IMO. With their surplus of D we maybe able to upgrade on Vinny too but it’s going to cost a lot

I’d keep VD and look to upgrade Ceci but yeh I wouldn’t mind a trade with CBJ to get rid of the two sources of the most frustration I have with the oilers, which is the Campbell signing and the Broberg pick.

You know who never lets shit leak to the media? Another dinosaur GM in NYI. Why can’t Holland keep stuff under wraps? This is what the 2nd or 3rd time he had to correct the record regarding a potential rumor? Every time that happens, trade value takes a hit. Kenny’s a general MANAGER, manage your shit.

Sounds like even Baghdad Bob thought they should have taken the goalie instead of trading down for Bourgault.

They look incredibly stupid now just completely writing that Wallstedt kid off considering he's looking way better than Cossa.

Stauffer is ripping the Oilers scouting and development.

Finally he's taking a shot at the f***ing organization
The Stauffer kiss of death. This falls squarely on Holland so I'm guessing his days are numbered, especially with this Holland/Broberg fiasco out in public. He may not have given permission to Broberg but Jackson probably did . These two aren't even with the same book publication let alone the same page.

Looking like quite the miss right now. According to Gazzola though, he was told there were character/personality/demeanour issues for why we didn’t draft Wallstedt. I just don’t trust Wright to be able to make that call.

Every day that Holland does nothing he makes $13,698. Every week that he does nothing he makes $95,890 and every month that he does nothing he makes $416,667. Must be nice to suck at your job and make this kind of coin.

Holland:

Said it when he was hired. Retirement gig which he'll try and play safe.
