First, the Flyers took Swedish prospect Felix Sandstrom, a 6-2, 192-pound goalie that who had a decent year in Swedish junior ranks (2.63 GAA and 9.07 saves percentage in 14 games) and moved up to play a couple of impressive games in the Swedish Elite League. But due to a bout with mononucleosis and an injury, Sandstrom missed a good chunk of the season which Hextall feels might have hurt his value in the eyes of some scouts.

“All those things affect, first of all, your performance,†Hextall said about the goalie he took at No. 70 overall. “Secondly, people start asking questions. So we were comfortable with where we got him.

“His mental toughness is top-shelf and that’s a big factor with goalies. That’s why we were willing to take a whack at him there.â€

Named one of Sweden's top-three players in the U18 championships, Felix Sandstrom is one of the better goalie prospects in this draft. He has the tools, intelligence, and mobility to be a top goalie in the NHL. Ranked very highly by some scouts and not so much by others, he could fall far enough to where the Predators feel they have to take him if they are in the former group.

Here are the top-five netminders available in the upcoming draft:

5. Felix Sandstrom, Brynas Jr., Sweden

Sweden has produced the likes of current NHLers Henrik Lundqvist, Eddie Lack, Jonas Gustavsson, and Jhonas Enroth and the 18-year-old Sandstrom could be the next stud goaltender to come out of the country.

The Swede spent the majority of the 2014-15 season with Brynas of the Super Elite league, entering 14 games and recording a goals-against average of 2.63.

He also appeared as part of Sweden's Under-18 team at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial, splitting time between the pipes with Adam Werner, while posting a GAA of 3.35.

His twin brother, Simon, a defenseman, also plays in the Super Elite league.

He's Pronman's top ranked goalie of the draft. Higher than Samsonov who went in the 1st.

Battled injuries this year.

Probably still too early for Tomek. Maybe in the 4th round.

Is this the 2nd swedish goalie you've drafted with Lindbergh being #1?

This guy played 2 regular season for Brynäs in the SHL this year:
Brynäs SHL 2games 1.09gaa .963

Cherrypicking at it's finest.

Corey Pronman's analysis:

1. Felix Sandstrom
Brynas (SHL)
DOB: 1/12/97 | Ht: 6-2 | Wt: 192
2014-15 GP: 2 | GAA: 1.09 | SV%: .963

Sandstrom missed chunks of the season due to various ailments, after he came into the season as a top prospect. This lack of playing time has led to divisive stances within the industry, with some scouts claiming he's clearly good enough to go in the top two rounds and others stating he's more of a middle-round selection. Sandstrom has shown advanced play for several seasons and has impressive raw tools. He moves pretty well for a player his size, while not being erratic. His goaltender IQ grades high, as he tracks the puck pretty well and stays ahead of the play. Sandstrom is a roll of the dice, as its not outside the realm of possibility that he's in the NHL within three or four years, but his lack of playing time could scare teams.

And now a run on goalies. Flyers were ahead of the curve. Good job Hextall.

Boucher on NHL network said that Neil Little had Sandstrom in the top 3 goalies in the draft.

There was one they took that had about 45 letters in his name.

Per-Ragnar Bergqvist. Not as long as I thought. Disappointing.

I'll admit that I don't know anything about Sandstorm, so I'll trust Hexy on this one. We needed a goalie and we got one. Can't complain about that.

Sounds like he's good in most areas, needs to improve overall game. Will take time, hope it works for us.
What is he like handling the puck.? If lundquist is his fav goalie, hopefully he develops puck skills, similar to lundquist.

I like this pick. We need some goalie prospects and there seems to be the run on goalies happening now so the timing is good. With the player himself it seems like a risky and bold pick, but there's boom or bust potential there. The boom part is really important for picks in the 3rd round or later. Sounds like the doubt people have is more about scares of sample size that aren't really his fault.
