Those are two examples of losing top four D without replacement making teams markedly worse, so I'm not sure what you're going for here.

Uh... Stanley Cup winner with Norris trophy built blue lines are not comparable to rebuilding teams trying to become playoff teams

I said: "Losing a top 4 defensemen can create a cavernous hole going forward."

Those teams want to continue winning Stanley Cups as badly as we want to make the playoffs, and defensive depth is currently a big ****ing issue for both, so again, not sure what you're going for here.

And having a Norris Trophy winner anchoring your blueline isn't insurance for going from contender to one and done, or in LA's case, worse.

I'm guilty of being stupid on this one

Kris Russel would be a good add for this team in the offseason. I don't care what his advanced stats say he's a decent dman.

Kane ought to swap with Girgensons and run the 4th line, but I think they are trying to get him some points with Eichel to inflate his trade value.

If he isn't shooting high and wide, it's directly into the player's shins in front of him. He has an uncanny way of just totally killing the play.

I'm hoping kane can get it going with eichel and Reinhart and force our hand one way or another

When our defense is fully healthy, does anyone think Gorges should actually be in the top 6? Falk, Fedun and even Franson are so much better then him.

There's 30 teams having to expose a defenseman, Bogo is going to be down on the list of pick-ups and Kulikov, unsigned, would be a dumb pick.

1st try him on the 3rd pair. Then make a decision. Every player you mentioned to replace him has been sheltered.

Remember preseason when everyone was like oh god lets hope we won't need Falk

For me, Fedun stays no matter what. He brings an element of mobility and getting pucks to the net that is sorely lacking regardless of health. He is a good asset in a 3rd pair/2nd PP/Ozone Start role.

Gorges and Franson are both garbage.... Franson has played better than we expected but being that he's a rightie, and so is Fedun, I'd probably take him out of the lineup before Gorges.

Grant with Jack and Sam. I hope that doesn't make it into the game tomorrow...

I almost like it

Love where Kane is. Even if that line got 15 minutes, no problem with him being with a net mouth greaser like Moulson and a grinder like Carrier - exactly who he needs to clean up his garbage. And excited to see how he plays full time at center, since he's taking draws anyways and loves holding the puck.

Love Girgensons back in the top 6.

Grant doesn't need to be anything special for Eichel and Reinhart to keep working. Just play a simple, smart game and get your linemates the puck. When Ennis comes back, he might take that spot.

As always Tim Murray very forthcoming yesterday with Schopp and Parker. He said he was disappointed with Carrier's game when he was moved up, said he watched him intently during practice and he was the best player on the ice and then kinda laid an egg - said he's likely to get a few more chances playing in top 6 then you move him down the lineup or out to Rochester.

Also when talking about team speed, of course he'd like some more speed but not at the expense of high skill/smarts, the puck moves faster than the fastest skater - said he wouldn't trade Reinhart for a faster player.

And again mentioned how involved he is with the coaching, which I think is much more than the typical GM - he lets Bylsma know any time he sees things he doesn't like.

I don't even want Grant on the team really but trying Kane at center is an interesting experiment. Grant can't hurt Eichel and Reinhart. Would be nice to see Baptiste with those two. Kid has 9 goals in 10 games in Rochester.

And people keep asking what's up with Fasching and still no answers :help:

on the brightside this stops Bylsma from using Grant as a defensive specialist.

Grant was excellent yesterday at keeping the Rangers pinned deep. Plus, he doesn't turn the puck over. I can see exactly why Bylsma would want him on that line.

I'm very interested at seeing Kane in a situation where he can attempt to 1v9 inferior players, without burning icetime of more talented stars.

At the same time, him and Carrier are a dangerous pairing. They both are fast and have a tendency to over-pursue the play. That hangs a very slow Moulson out to dry behind them.

Here's an idea for the expansion draft. If they go 7 forwards and 3 defenseman.

Exempt: Eichel, Reinhart

Forwards to Protect:

ROR
Okposo
Larsson
Foligno
Kane
Girgensons
Carrier

Defenseman to protect:

Ristolainen
McCabe
Bogosian

I can't see Vegas wanting to take a UFA d-man in Kulikov they pass on him and then we sign him to an extension before July 1st.

Despite his injury history Bogosian has too much value to lose for nothing in an expansion draft. Same with Girgensons.

If they are dead set on re-signing Kulikov before July 1st, then trade Bogosian for picks or an exempt player and 1 of Girgensons/Kane at the deadline, protect 8 skaters and risk losing Carrier.

In the 8 skaters scenario, assuming Bogo and 1 of Kane/Girgensons are traded they protect:

ROR
Okposo
Larsson
Foligno
Girgensons/Kane
Ristolainen
McCabe
Kulikov

In both of these scenarios the players who fulfill the under contract and games played requirement are Gorges on D and Moulson/Deslauriers on Forward.

The 1st scenario is more likely than the 2nd.

I think Baptise, Fasching, and Bailey easily could replace Foligno in the bottom 6. Foligno looks out of place whenever he gets an opportunity with the big boys in the top 6. That said I like having him, but his value will never be close to Kane. Kane in his last contract year had 30 goals.

On paper Kane has more value than Foligno.

I think that's a bit ambitious, but I absolutely believe a 3rd is doable. And if Tim get conditions on it to make it a 2nd if the team advances to the conference finals, even better.

I agree....Franson likely 3rd but could be a 2nd based on him playing and playoff advancement.

Im all for upgrading/replacing Bogo... but if we don't before the expansion draft, then we need to protect him.

There should be little debate... the best case expansion scenario, includes protecting 4 defensemen.

Risto, McCabe, a re-signed Kulikov, and Bogo or his replacement.

We have a good collection of forwards that will be exposed.... we'll try out best to pay LV to take Ennis or Moulson... if that doesn't work, then we probably lose one of Carrier, Foligno, Girgensons, Kane, etc.... it's not the end of the world. You can sustain losing a SINGLE WINGER.... Losing a top 4 defensemen can create a cavernous hole going forward.

For the most part I agree. I would protect Carrier over Foligno.

If they play Reinhart at 3rd center then Larsson could be traded or exposed.
