I would like to break up the first line. Keep 37 and 63, but put Pasta with 46.

63-37-43
74-46-88
17-52-42
T-Fred-55-10

I wouldn’t mind the B’s moving a prospect or two for a young JT Miller type. Physical but with some skills. Charlie Coyle? Spitballing here, there are probably other candidates.

Revisit the idea of Christian Dvorak from ARZ? I’d like something along the lines of that

Find two wingers with hands and wheels and size that don’t peel off hitting their opponents.

A dman with wheels, attitude, size and hands. Basically mate Krug and McQuaid.

And a unicorn. That’d be awesome too

No overhaul, just a youth takeover.

Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak
Donato-Krejci-Heinen
Debrusk-JFK/Frederic-Bjork
Cehlarik-Kuraly-Acciari

I'd like to see this lineup for no other reason than to say it's entirely home grown.

The bottom 6 is crazy young though. I'd expect them to find a vet either in free agency or via trade to slot in somewhere down there. Perhaps a steady centre.

I agree with pretty much the majority of posters here. No massive overhaul is needed. When healthy, this is still a very good hockey team, even if they say goodbye to all of their skater UFAs.

That March grind IMO really took the wind of the sails of this team. Just a brutally compact schedule where over half the roster missed at least some time during that stretch.

Stick to the plan, stay away from July 1st madness, keep getting younger, faster and more talented by continuing to incorporate the good young players coming up in the system. Donato should be a full-time player next year. Same with Bjork. JFK will push for a spot, I think it's likely Frederic will as well.

The 7 D they have are all still capable and likely will be back. Carlo's loss had a bigger impact than I think anyone really would of thought. Zboril/Lauzon/etc. may push for jobs but unless they are regular everyday players, they'll be in Providence gaining experience getting better. No need to rush any of them with 7 good D-men currently on the team.

They need to bring back Khudobin IMO. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Rask gets a lot of flack around here but this was his best season since 2013-14, not a coincidence that was the last season he has a capable back-up partner.

I like Dvorak, but was thinking of someone with a little more “nasty”.

Fair enough and some more of that in the lineup would help. But do you need that from your centermen? I was looking along the lines more of speed and skill. Especially since Krejci is aging. Would also allow more time for JFK and Frederic to blossom.

Idk, just throwing out options

I'd be completely fine bringing back the exact same roster minus Rick Nash. Year after is the one that you can make some major decisions with many contracts being up.

Donato is an obvious "replacement" for Nash, and probably should have been this playoffs anyways. Riley Nash is the interesting one. Everyone was down on him after the playoffs, but I feel like injuries probably played a large role. Obviously depending on price, I'd be interested in bringing him back. I'd like Schaller and Kuraly back too, but am not sure what their contracts would look like. Don't want to break the bank for the 4th line.

Backes and Krejci will be here no matter what, you aren't going to unload those contracts.

On the back-end, bridge Grz and we're good to go.

It's a huge offseason for Sweeney and this organization. They showed this year they have some young guys that can play, they have a solid coaching stuff, they have a tight knit unit.... they've got a good thing going.... but, while they are great people, we have some veterans commanding heavy dollars that really need to move. I can't see Backes having a spot on this team going forward the way the league is trending with speed/youth. He had nothing left at the end and ends up most likely getting concussed. Hope it's not serious. Krejci, is another guy, that it would be great to move. Retool the core a bit if you will. Bergeron has probably 1 ELITE year left in my estimation. I think he'll be a good player his whole contract provided he is able to stay healthy, but next year might be the last elite year left..... so we gotta ice the best possible team next year. Inject a little more speed/youth/skill/physicality... and hopefully find a way to move on from Krejci and Backes.. also, I think the D needs to be improved. I don't think we can have McQuaid and Killer. Need to make the 2nd/3rd pair better overall. There is a lot to be done, and I have no ideas as far as how he gets it done, but I think there needs to be a fair amount of tinkering. This team showed it can compete and go for a cup. If Sweeney can make some magic happen this offseason I see a much deeper run. Would love for him to figure out a way to get a 1st rounder back this upcoming draft.

To me it's clear they lack speed in the bottom 6. Id like for them to go for a mix of speed and physicality in their bottom 6 this off-season, no roster overhaul though.

Zero chance that either of those guys get bought out. Already enough dead cap. Traded and some salary retained? That's more possible.

I'm talking ELITE. Like this year. Career year type stuff... as I said I think he will be good for the length of his contract, but I truly think next year is THE year to bring the cup here. Not saying it can't or won't happen in the latter years of his contract, just saying I think it's important to put the best foot forward come October next year and that means Donnie has some shit to do

The D worries me. It's fine for the regular season, but I have serious questions about whether or not it's enough for the playoffs. Having Carlo in would have been great and made somewhat of a difference, but injuries are going to happen to d-men. Been happening to the Bs for years now.

Also, looking at the competition in the East for the next few years, the Bs really need to try to move Backes. Loved the guy in his prime, but he is not in his prime and was a poor signing. I know he was hurt this year, but he is only going to get older. If they want to do something with him they better try to do it sooner rather than later, as he will not be getting any younger, or more productive. Been saying this for a really long time now, but I would try to find a way to move Krejci as well. That ship has probably sailed, though. The team has too much money tied up in slow aging guys. It seems to me that to compete for a Cup they need to have more speed at the 2C spot and more speed and finish at wing. Backes and Krejci don't bring that. Not saying they are awful players, but for the salary they command they do not bring enough to the table.

So is trading DK possible? or moving him to the 3rd line?

I really think Heinen-Krejci-Backes would be a really good 3rd line. The obvious want is for me is Tavares, but the cap obviously becomes an issue. We really need high end talent.

Pretty much all the FAs can go. I’d like to see them move McQ if nothing else but to shed some salary.

Potential D pairing

Chara McAvoy
Krug Carlo (please no more injuries)
Grz Miller
Zboril

I would like Grz back but we will have to see how Sweeney feels having two short Ds. Maybe for him team can only afford to have one (Krug)

And he may to push the agenda to have Zboril make the club next season (and or Lauzon)

Our forwards are too small and weak. Need to get tougher

Right on the money, this was our main issue this serie and will be next year again if not adressed.

The NHL will never revert fully in the playoffs to a regural season style of refereing calling every little things,
this is why the team need to address this issue this summer and let some player go.

I honestly feel like one or two of these young prospects/kids we have at forward may need to get packaged together to hopefully bring something back. JFK/Bjork/Frederic/Debrusk/Donato/Heinen... etc... that's a lot of mouths to feed. I'm very curious what DS will/or won't do this Summer
