Land of no calls..
Fox is an absolute stud, but I really don’t want a whole right side anchored by sub 6 ft ~180 pound defenders. I’m not asking for meatheads, but some size and skating ability is necessary on the backend, especially with how aggressive teams are down low and near the net now. We’ve seen plenty of times this season how Pionk and/or ADA got outworked to a loose puck leading to goals against us. If we find a way to get Fox, I think I’d use Pionk as trade bait in the future.

Some bigger guys that can skate and are really good young defenders are Oskari, Laaksonen, Phillipe Myers, Erik Cernak, and Roland McKeown. I’d also give a limb to Detroit for Fil Hronek, but that’s not happening. I don’t think these guys will become top-pairing defenders, but I am really high on Cernak and Myers.

My gut tells me that the Rangers will keep one of ADA or Pionk and the other will be dealt sooner rather than later. I actually think DeAngelo might be the guy they keep as they seem to be bringing him along slowly as opposed to the fire hose method with Pionk.

Fox is a heck of a player but this feels like another situation where the Rangers might be his preferred destination. It's possible they could eventually get him for the price of an ELC.

Pionk has the inflation of his hot streak and appeal of the ELC to make him an intriguing trade asset. I’m not saying to get rid of him, but he does have the appeal of being an asset that helps facilitate a really good hockey trade.

As you all know, I am a huge fan of Pionk's, but I can see this as well. He and DeAngelo are already somewhat redundant, especially with Shattenkirk here. If Fox is on the horizon... well, somebody's got to go. Who brings the best return?

It’s so early for this conversation even after Fox is acquired. Shattenkirk is the obvious first choice. Then let them all play and see where the chips fall.

I've been a Pionk fan for a long while but I still see him being most effective as a Torey Krug type of player. A 3rd pairing PP specialist who can be on the 2nd pairing in a pinch. He could get moved to a team who sees him as more and has a young forward to spare.

I see him the same way. I just wished his deployment matched that profile because I think he’d do so much better in that role. The lack of offensive generation from our dmen has been a big issue for me this season. It’s not that Quinn isn’t trying to get them to do it, it’s that they’re not executing it smartly. They love being aggressive on trailing plays, but they’re too reluctant on generating shots from the point.

1st round pick for Kevin Hayes

1st round pick for Mats Zuccarello

TB wins the Cup and the Rangers get the 31st pick in the draft. It's TB's Cup to lose.

Four 1st round picks in June.

The Rangers should trade Chris Kreider at the deadline in February. They can't go through another season where they have a key player on an expiring contract. The draft is kind of slow for trades. This trade deadline is the time.

It doesn't look like the Rangers will re-sign Hayes no matter how much Larry Brooks campaigns for the Rangers to pay Hayes.

The Rangers have had no discussions or very little discussions about re-signing Zuccarello.

Speaking of Hayes

Love reducing a player's work to their goal total.

Why can't they go through another season where they have a key player on an expiring contract?

Kreider is an interesting case. He's finally what everyone thought he could be this year, but will be out of contract next year. Do you capitalize on his highest trade value yet or do you keep him around as a vet and have him mentor the new core? Tough call. Trading absolutely everyone over 26 is how you become Edmonton.

If Kreider continues to perform the way he has since coming back from his injury, it’s not really a tough call.

Admitedly, 30 points in your first 54 games as a defenseman will also do that.

Personally, I don't think the Rangers move either of Pionk or ADA on the sooner side of spectrum --- not until they have a better understanding of what they have or don't have.

The only exception I can think of is if there is a prime, young talent to be had and one of them is part of the price.

But I think there's a degree of uncertainty around Shattenkirk, and a bit of a gap until other young defenders are going to be ready.

I don't expect much if anything happening before the TDL especially when guys like Zuc and McQuiad have to build their game back up coming off injuries.

Pionk is not being moved. Not happening. The coach loves him. Guys who are Quinn guys up to this point; Ziba, Kreider, Howden, Pionk, Chytil, Georgiev, Buch (read DW's quotes about him from yesterday/today).

I know we all want Keane to finally be that stud RHD man the Rangers haven't had in forever, but he's still a 3rd rounder and unknown until he makes his presence felt at the NHL level.

I would trade Pionk in a heartbeat. The guy probably holds a lot of value.

I just don't see it with him. I think its a case of the flashy plays blinding us from the bonehead ones.

Also while being a smaller guy isn't really a huge problem, it is when you model your game off of guys who are bigger than you. Its pretty pathetic when Pionk tries to body guys in the D zone.

Which is why fans have to grin and bear it which I'm not sure 80% of the board is willing to do. It's going to get worse before it gets better. And, clearly not you, but why is everyone such a Pionk-hater? "Hot streak? His production last year was good, too. He's had a "hot streak" going all season, I guess. It's weird--everyone is down on Pionk but favorable of DeAngelo, who had a classic hot streak and is back to looking REALLY good ans BEING average at best.

As of the time they both joined the team to now, Pionk is better by a mile... and, YES, numbers ARE everything in 2018, especially for offensive d-men.

I'd prefer to keep Kreider but I'm open to moving him for the right return. I think everyone outside of Zibanajad, Chytil, Anderson, Ada,Pionk, Skjei and Howden should be available. Buchnevich I could move for a proper return,ok keeping him too. Theres no way we trade all those guys so float them all out there and see who takes what.

For some reason Pionk and ADA are pitted against each other like you can only like one, and to like one means you are crapping on the other, no idea why we cant like one or the other or both.

I would trade literally anyone on this team for the right price. The right price for Kreider would have to be astronomical at this juncture.
Why, whats so amazing about Kreider? He's basically somewhere between a 1st/2nd liner who takes stretches of games off.
