I feel for Kreider and Zucc because they're being asked to carry a team.

If they were compliments alongside all-world centers, they'd be putting up gaudy numbers and would be viewed a lot differently.

You see what Jake Guentzel does in Pittsburgh. Imagine Kreider in that situation...

They're definitely first liners though, and that was fine when we had depth.

This is what we look like with Washington depth and Montreal elite talent.

Mats Zuccarello is the 13th most productive RW over the last 3 years (PPG). Kreider is the 25th most productive LW over the last 3 years. As much as this team lacks a top tier player at any position, the idea that we don't have any 1st line forwards is false.

as much as i would like to believe your take i cannot. hockey isnt played in a vacuum. this is the same tired argument we got with rick nash.

forget what he is or isnt doing now ( like scoring), just look at his numbers over a period of time and assume that that production is happening now. it isnt. period.

zucc has been an amazing player but hes older, and sadly slower and his game has been so far, so-so.

hes got 8 points in 11 games and a -5. 5v5 hes been weak at best. 3 points in 11 games of 5v5 hockey. ouch.

CK is 7 points in 11 games and -1. and again, 5v5 hes been just short of bad. 2 points in 11 games of even strength hockey. really ?

together those 1ST LINE PLAYERS have 3 goals and 5 total points in 11 games at EVEN STRENGTH.

those arent 1st line numbers.

But zucc and kreider are on pace for 55-60 point seasons even when "underperforming". They are adjusting to a new system in which the entire team is struggling.
Hayes is the worst of the vets right now.
All that said the nash defense comparisons are ludicrous. They arent nash. They don't make 8 million a year. We didnt trade dubinsky anisimov a top prospect and a 1st for them. And even on an off year zucc is going to hit his average and kreider is on pace for a career year. On top of that they are on different lines every night...

It's not just Hayes, Zuccarello and McQuaid.

Are the Rangers re-signing a then 29 year old Kreider before the becomes a free agent on July 1,2019? They would be stupid to do so. Trade him before/at this coming trading deadline. Don't wait and be in the same situation like they are now with Zuccarello and Hayes.

Brooks wrote in June that Gorton didn't want to ice a skeleton team so they would hold off on trading certain players last summer.

This is a better situation? The team is 3-7-1. They have one regulation win in 11 games. The back up got that win. The trade rumors have already started and it's only October.

I don't why Quinn is wasting his breath trying to get this group to compete. Less than a handful will be here when the team is ready to win again in 3-4 years.

People expect top 10 players in positions when they talk about 1st line material, which is both misleading and unrealistic

So when uncle Larry writes about accelerating rebuild by signing UFAs - he only cares about selling his article and maintaining his readership, but when he talks about selling off upcoming UFAs ASAP (that might be here for now to protect rookies from roles they are not prepared for) - he’s spot on?

Not saying he’s wrong here just that if you think his intentions are “pure” here then don’t suggest alternative motives when his opinions don’t agree with yours.

When we signed Shattenkirk there was a part of me that looked at the terms and the NTC/NMC details and thought there was perhaps an understanding that the team would look to trade him sooner rather than later. He gets to live out his childhood dream for a season or two and then the Rangers deal him with some retention to a team looking for a short-term commitment for their RHD. Hopefully he can show he's not just the PP specialist a lot of people, myself included, thought he was.

I watch this team and just can't help but wonder how long Hank is going to hold on. 10 games into the season and he looks like he did at the end of last year.

Trading Leetch on his birthday cursed the organization with respect to PP QBs.
