The argument is that Trouba gets "caved in" in possession metrics so that Fox and TDA might not have to, so that they might be able to better utilize their strengths.

Of course, both this argument and Trouba's perceived value to our team rely on the distinction between defensive zone play and the ability to exit the zone, which apparently not everyone subscribes to.

I like a lot of things that Trouba brings to the team. They need someone like him. But 8 million needs to get you a guy that can take the tough assignments and excel at them. Not just be a meat shield.

Yeah, teams almost always end up regretting giving a lengthy contract to a player like that in free agency. See: Clarkson, Lucic, Okposo, Ladd, etc.
