Does anyone still have that picture of Glen Sather as a wizard from years ago?

Done to keep Hank around, assuming :help:

Not nec. This is a smart move completely independent of Hank. It's also a good move financially for DET cause it helps them to get to the cap floor but if Staal's bonus has already been paid for 2021, then they it's like half of Staal's salary in real money paid out.

Yzerman has now traded for our all of our top 3 D during our 2014 run.

The only future move that this trade solidifies -- is we will be bringing in another LD via FA or trade. It's unlikely we go into next season with Lindgren, Smith and just give the next LD to Miller, Robertson, Reunanen or Hajek.

So who is our LD to replace him?

Maybe Hajek so they can figure out what he is and then expose him?

I'd love to be all sunshine, but I have to admit I'm waiting to see how the cap space is used. Gorton hasn't exactly shown that he is willing leave a buffer or let unused space be unused for a few months. Maybe he's making a run at Pietrangelo to shore up the right side.

This is just such a good move because now Gorton just gave himself a TON of flexibility. He can go and sign the RFAs and a stop gap LD. Or he can he can make a play for a more expensive upgrade at 2C or LD. And he could STILL buy out Henrik. Consider: What could the Rangers do with 24m in space?

Clearing cap space in a world where most teams are going to have internal caps is just a very very smart move. I mean, I'm impressed.

I mean, that’s simply an amazing deal. I’m grateful for everything Staal has done for this franchise, but the injuries totally derailed him as a player. He was visibly two steps behind the NHL pace, and this only helps to open up room for our crop of LHD. Amazing deal to clear cap to sign Tony and maybe keep Fast
