I've never understood the appeal of Cookout. It's a lot of food for a cheap price, but it's a lot of gross food. The only time I've seen people enjoy Cookout is late-night food coming back from the bars. If you have to be plastered to enjoy the food, it's probably not something you want to be eating.

Granted, the only Cookout I've seen that's had real success was in Greenville, popped right between three apartment complexes. Whoever franchised that location was a genius, because from 6:00 pm Thursday till 4:00 am Monday morning, there was just line after line of tipsy/drunk/plastered college students waiting for food.

Oh, I know. I lived in one of those three apartment complexes and roomed with people who drank enough to enjoy Cookout on a regular basis. Luckily, IIRC, there was a Bojangles right next to it, so anytime they'd want Cookout, I simply went next door to grab some Bo's.

I left Greenville right before that Cookout was built. Had the misfortune of living in University Manor so I know exactly where you're talking about. There was also an ABC store right there as well.

Is that what used to be across the street from the Cookout? My entire time there, it was simply an empty lot and I couldn't understand why someone would just let prime real estate like that go to waste.

Cookout is a lot better than most burger places, has a ton of other options, and the milkshakes are fantastic. But it's still just fast-food.

No it was further down on the left before you got to Lowes.

Fixed it for you. I'm a bit disappointed you left out the bolded. I've come to not only expect it, but look forward to it.

I half debated putting in the rest of my statement that I did once for Malone but decided not to.

I'm no Cookout fanboy, but that was probably the best burger we had in Boone (at least outside of a sit-down place), and we didn't even have it until 2006 or so. There's no comparing their burgers to Char-Grill, but their strategy of plopping them right in the middle of university areas and staying open until 4 AM is brilliant.

****, CI was right. Every thread around here really does devolve into a discussion about food.

^ Walking from Coltrane to cookout at 3AM was like a rite of passage

I was in Coltrane my freshman year, but that was before Cookout's time. I happen to know for a fact that the walk from Cardinal Apartments (behind Walgreen's at the edge of town on 321) to Cookout is exactly a mile, but Coltrane is probably farther.

We drank a lot that year, so there were many excursions. Somewhere along that stretch of road, we buried a few beers. I know exactly where they're buried. I do not know why we buried them. Someone told me to bury them, so I did. So there is buried treasure along that road, for ye who wish to seek it.

Speaking of treasure, I also know exactly what happened to the pirate statues in front of Port Christopher's. Of course, that place was awful and nobody ever ate there, so I doubt anyone noticed.

char grill is gross compared to cook out what are yout alking about

Cookout burgers and shakes are pretty good. And it's impossible to mess up french fries or hush puppies.

Most of the rest of the menu is questionable, but right there you've got enough options to get you by.

I know nothing about Roland McKeown.

Char grill is terrible, cookout wins the burger debate. Side note: Cookout is the only fast food place I've had a gun pulled on me, gotten a *******, and watched a chick throw up into someone else's car (not all in the same night).

You should of lied and said that happened all in one night, would of been a lot more exciting ;) Lol Cookout brings out the best of us people!
