Not suprised Iron Maiden got the shaft again, it's not like they're one of the most influential metal bands of the past 43 years that still make new records, still tour, have majority of their peak lineup intact, and are still one of the biggest and most respected acts in the scene or anything, then again it took Deep Purple how long to get in.

So Kate Bush gets in on the strength of one 80s song that was popular on Stranger Things.

So, Kate Bush was the most 'offensive' choice for you, huh?

I'm not even a massive fan, but she is definitely a very talented singer-songwriter who has done far more than "one 80s song..."

It’s more just that her induction is very transparently about viral popularity within the past year due to a TV show soundtrack.

She may well be deserving in her own right, but this was a dumb way for it to happen.

Well, call me unhip and old and all, but I really don't know what you're talking about. Yet even I know these brilliant hit songs that Kate Bush wrote and performed:

Certainly more deserving than many others (selected now or before her), screw the reasons why (now).

maybe someone from the rock hall committee ought to come out and redefine what exactly defines rock n roll nowadays. because no one that has been following rock music say from the late 50's until now would ever say that kate bush and missy elliot rocks over soundgarden n maiden. doing so would make you look like an absolute joe, and possibly even assaulted with certain individuals.

I would take Kate Bush over Iron Maiden and soundgarden, personally. Or rather, they're equally valid. Kate Bush was a significant change for Prog Rock/Art Rock, making room for other female prog artists like Jane Siberry, Laurie Anderson, Meryn Cadell, etc. This is in opposition as to what Yoko Ono did for women in Prog Rock/Art Rock.

Pretty much this. If the argument is that "Kate Bush is not 'rock and roll'", then the counter-argument could be that a) Iron Maiden and Soundgarden are not rock'n'roll either per se (metal at least to me) and b) there have been many non-rock'n'roll selections almost right from the start (e.g. those '50s/'60s doo-wop/vocal groups).

Quite frankly, I'm somewhat shocked that the choice of Kate Bush is getting this kind of backlash. OK, she is apparently not so well-known in USA/North America as in the UK/Europe, but I didn't know that being big in America was a some kind of criterion. Furthermore, she is an original and a very well-respected artist with a long career; for example, I've seen her Hounds of Love album on quite a few 'best albums of all-time' lists.

Oh yeah, Iron Maiden and Soundgarden should absolutely be in too, but unfortunately, metal doesn't seem to be very hip/liked among the voters.

i'll backtrack from kate bush. she does rock as she is the female version of peter gabriel. progressive rock is very much overlooked. missy elliot on the other hand..

Meh, I don't mind that song. I can probably name a thousand bands or artists with music that is much more offensive to my ears than BNL's stuff. A few of their songs are actually really good.

At this point it's a rock HOF in name only. It's quite clear that they have shifted to become the Music Industry HOF.

I wasn't even familiar with her until last Summer (and still am not very), despite living through the 80s and considering it my favorite decade of music.

Her discography page at Wikipedia (link) suggests a likely reason: she didn't have much success here in the US. Her only Billboard top-40 hit was the song in question, at #30. The next highest was #72, then #88 and that's it for charted singles. She was much more successful in Europe, especially in her native UK.

i've been a kate bush fan for well over a decade now and while it's cool that she's getting in (and her talent/influence on other female artists certainly merit induction,) it's 100% only because of stranger things and there's no denying that

she was pretty much unknown here in the US before that and the fact that she's never done any sort of major tour or even performed live on a consistent basis certainly hasn't helped

That's not really unusual - several people have been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame after something causes them to get more press (usually death, unfortunately).

not saying its unusual. just pointing out that the only reason she got in was because of stranger things

Can't believe this crap.

But hey, if inducting Kate Bush makes some silly metalheads get whiny, yeah, I'm all for it.
