Buffalo is going nowhere and will probably start tanking hardcore for Dahlin soon, if they haven't already started. Ristolainen is not good enough defensively to be "the guy" on an NHL team - and Buffalo is probably starting to realize this. Though, most other teams might not.

Young RH defencemen are worth more than gold in the NHL.

What would teams offer for Risto?

Why wouldn't we keep him? its not like hes stopping us from hitting the bottom of the standings. Sure hes a train wreck defensivly and has been making huge gaffs transitioning the puck lately but I think he is still a top 4 D and we could defiantly still use him If we happen to luck into Dahlin.

Buffalo gets a more steady stabilizing stay at home young RD and Ottawa takes the gamble on Rasmus because they desperately need more speed/offense from their D

Hes worth it , the rangers have way to many ld in the system that are ready and for them to come up McDonagh needs to go with staal aswell , McDonagh is great dont get me wrong but the contract hes on is a steal so make the most of it now and get a good return

IMO McDonagh + 2nd for Risto sounds more fairly... for us.

How much would I be willing to give up for a bottom pairing PP specialist who has no idea how to..ya know..play defense? Not much, maybe a 4th rounder. He's absolutely putrid in his own zone, the Sabres bleed shots against when he's on the ice. He's essentially a smaller, Finnish Cody Franson, with a less impressive point shot.

I can't see him being moved in division, maybe not in conference... but the only teams I see working out west are Chicago - something around Seabrook + prospects & future - and Edmonton - who I can't really figure out a deal with. Klefbom seems too lateral and the 1st rounder isn't a chip that EDM will risk losing, unless they give it top 5 or 10 protection. Pool Party?

In the Met, the only teams that make some sense to me are Washington - see: Turris - Duchene trade but this time it's Carlson (+) - Risto - and NYI, and that's just because they kinda have a need and they have a ton of flexibility as to how they want to proceed moving forward

What's with this tanking theory. Even finishing last only gives a team 30% change of the # 1 pick. Sabres can just play the they are, and they will have a high draft pick. I don't think an 18 year Dman is going to help the Sabres that much. Lots of work to do, including letting those lousy contracts expire, so some of them are just about untradeable without taking equal bad money back.

I disagree. I'd like something small added. Like Nylander instead of Pominville, or change Necas to a different prospect. But I definitely see it as some frame work for a trade.

Member when everyone bash Nurse and wanted this guy so bad over Nurse . I laughed then and now I am laughing again . Fans of other teams don't seem to look at the players development from year to year and only look at what stage a player is at today . Nurse development has been a steady climb up the depth charts to where he is a reliable top 4 D . He also seems to improve every day . I still thin you have a PP specialist in Risto and because I see that I would offer 2nd in 2018 and 2019
