I agree, but Berra isn't a huge upgrade, or even one at all on Montoya. I know people bash Al because of his draft selection, but he's a very solid back up. He might not have Reto's size, but he has been MUCH more consistent than him in the second goaler role.

Montoya might have been the best goalie I've watched live at the NCAA level. Michigan used to come up and play UAF every year...I always expected more from him at the NHL level but I agree...there is nothing wrong with him as a back up trying to push for playing time. As a fan of the Avalanche, I can't ever cast a stone at another teams goalie depth...the AVs are a team that STARTED an actual NHL season with a Budaj/Raycroft tandem. *shudder*
