If the Petry deals allowed this, at least that's positive. Still dislike the extra year on the cap that Matheson brings.
"extra year" (fourth) = the year Matheson starts out as 31 and turns 32?

That's still better than Petry's last year (third) where he starts out as 36 and finishes 37.

He’s going to need the same amount of ice time. Center insurance if we get an injury?

Who’s our 5th depth center now?
Pitlick can play the three forward positions. He did play center a bit last year too.

Yes he did play center but was not very good at the 200’ part
Habs centerline is rather sketchy after Suzuki. Dvorak could be better. Dach is an enigma.who has lots of work to do in all aspects of his game. Evans is one concussion away from retirement.

Evans is not anywhere close to a concussion that forces retirement any more than Crosby.

The top 4 are doable but every season has injuries.

Pitlick and Hoffman can play center, and so can Drouin. Not ideal. We could sign a replacement level 4C like in the old days (Malhotra, Thompson, Mitchell).

Schnarr and Hillis play C. Teasdale has a bit. If Mesar is in Laval, he could play in a pinch.

Easiest bet if we don't find a cheap NHL vet might be to re-sign Paquette as a tweener.

This is a player/contract that can return a ton at the deadline. Similar to Brendan Hagel.

If Rem can be 25G/30A at 1.1M, that could be a contract that could bring back a ton at this years deadline cause the salary is so cheap and it’s for 2 years. I wouldn’t expect 2 firsts but certainly that’s the type of contract that can bring back a 1st if he continues his play

It's interesting why didn't a team like Toronto that's cap-strapped didn't go for him this year? Seems like a perfect gamble to get more production than the salary.
