The Wild snapped a 5 game winning streak with a home loss to the Rangers on Thursday night, but continue to be one of the hottest teams in the league. They sit comfortably in the first wild card spot, but appear to be out of reach of a top-three divisional playoff spot. They can clinch a playoff berth tonight in one of five different scenarios as described here:
http://www.startribune.com/sports/blogs/298668461.html

Probable Wild lineup:
Parise - Granlund - Pominville
Nino - Koivu - Stewart
Vanek - Coyle - Fontaine
Brodziak - Haula - Schroeder

Suter - Brodin
Scandella - Spurgeon
Prosser - Dumba

Duuuuuuuuuuuuubs

Scratched: Carter, Bergenheim, Leopold
Injured: Cooke, Zucker

Leading scorers:
Parise: 30 goals, 28 assists = 58 points
Vanek: 21 goals, 30 assists = 51 points
Pominville: 17 goals, 33 assists = 50 points

The Red Wings still sit 3rd in the Atlantic division, but almost seem to want to sacrifice their playoff streak for a minuscule shot at McDavid. Atop the Eastern Conference a few months ago, they are fighting for their playoff lives as 9th place Ottawa sits three points back, with each team having five games remaining.

Pavel Datsyuk is expected to return tonight after missing 7 of the past 9 games with a lower body injury.

Possible Red Wings lineup: (feel free to correct this)
Abdelkader - Zetterberg - Nyquist
Helm - Datsyuk - Tatar
Pulkkinen - Sheahan - Weiss
Miller - Glendening - Andersson

Kronwall - Ericsson
DeKeyser - Quincey
Smith - Zidlicky

Leading scorers:
Zetterberg: 16 goals, 45 assists = 61 points
Datsyuk: 24 goals, 36 assists = 60 points
Tatar: 28 goals, 26 assists = 54 points

god I'd love for the wings to miss the playoffs

That be a 2011-2012 Wildesque meltdown, not quite as dramatic and not as quick, but from top of the conference to out of the playoffs. Their only three up on Ottawa for the final playoff spot.

So with Winnipeg's win today, our clinching scenarios update slightly to this:

The Wild would clinch a playoff berth if they defeat the Red Wings in regulation or overtime AND any of the following occurs:

- the Flames lose in regulation
- the Flames lose in overtime or shootout AND the Kings lose in regulation

The Wild would clinch a playoff berth if they defeat the Red Wings in a shootout AND any of the following occurs:
- the Flames lose in any fashion AND the Kings lose in regulation

Unfortunately for us, it seems like every team we need to lose these days is always playing lesser teams; in this case Calgary is playing Edmonton (of course they are) and LA is playing Colorado.

Conspiracy! :sarcasm:
