You guys think Miele is gonna make the team?

I think they are running him out there as a favor for other teams to evaluate. They like him, he is a local boy that Blashill helped recruit to Miami of Ohio and was very good in Grand Rapids. I just don't see how he makes the Wings actual roster. But he can go back to Grand Rapids a pretty happy guy in terms of the organization giving him a big turn and him just losing out but being seen. That is really important to a guy like Miele.

Updated defence:

1. RD Nick Jensen, 8GP, 0+5=5p, 9 shots, +9, 1.75 P+Plus/G (this Jensen plusminus is something interesting. best with +30 last season at Griffins and same guy leading here again...)

3. RD Mike Green, 5GP, 0+4=4p, 5 shots, +4, 1.60 P+Plus/G

6. D Jonathan Ericsson, 7GP, 1+3=4p, 7 shots, +3, 1.00 P+Plus/G (behind the scenes, Jonathan Ericsson is building a good pre-season, just solid and more mistake free all the time)
7. RD Alexey Marchenko, 7GP, 0+3=3p, 4 shots, +4, 1.00 P+Plus/G
8. LD Niklas Kronwall, 7GP, 0+4=4p, 5 shots, +2, 0.86 P+Plus/G

Worked out really well for Dallas last year. :D

They sucked in goaltending (Lehtonen played too much and injured), also did have weak defensive defencemen (most promising guy Nemeth did injure himself after 20 games) and defensively weak center core (it's still there) Seguin-Spezza -combo.

We don't have those weaknesses (maybe goaltetending, but if howard rebounds back, there's no problem).

Did ya forget about Klingberg? Their rookie defenseman who put up 40 points in 60 games?

edit: Oh I think you were referring to defensive defenseman. IDK enough about klingberg to know how good he is defensively

That may be, but Dallas are the Ted Mosby to our Barney Stinson, the Ross Geller to our Joey Tribbiani, the Spock to our Captain Kirk. They simply can't come close to what will be our ability to score. ;)

Goaltending is the red herring for Dallas. If Lehtonen played every game at his win rate, they would have made the playoffs.

So the backup goalies performed awful, but what does it tell you when 3 NHL goalies all look bad behind your team defense? Oh sure, if they just had prime Hasek back there, maybe that's a good team. Maybe.

Nill has his work cut out for him to make that team anything more than an exiting regular season team to watch. Put it in the same category as the Washington Capitals when Green, Backstrom, and Ovechkin were lighting it up every game, only to fall on their face in the playoffs.

based on what i've seen, we are going to have bit more trouble in our zone this year.

We are going to have to rely a lot more on skating and backchecking than in years past. Our transition game looks pretty smooth so far in my opinion.

it's not really the neutral zone I'm concerned about.

but we will see. hopefully things workout well.

There's no question our defenders can move the puck pretty well and make smart plays, but I'm with you on the fact that when time and space is removed, they are going to struggle with the physical aspects of strong forechecking teams and teams that can put pressure on with size.

Only Ericsson can really handle himself in the corners, so that says a lot about the blueline. It's not the kiss of death to have a skilled set of defenders, but they better make sure they play the game on their terms, not allow other teams to dictate.

Hopefully that Bert-AA-Mantha line stays together in Grand Rapids. Should be fun to watch.

This season is going to be interesting. If Howard and Mrazek can find a consistently high level of play this team can challenge for a division win. This team is not as good as Anaheim or Chicago right now, the D isn't strong enough for that, but the depth and quality at forward is very good.

GR should be fighting for the Calder again this year, it is remarkable that even though they are losing the best player in the AHL last year (Pookie), they look stronger this year.

It's interesting to see that we have 13-14 forwards, who can keep up at the TOP9 scoring pace. Only Miele dropped from that pace as we went further, but he is a career Ahlr.

We really can have 4-5 injuries at TOP9 and we won't miss a beat calling up this Fantastic Four Larkin, AA, Lil'Bert and Mantha.

Insane depth.

Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Abdelkader
Tatar - Richards - Nyquist
Franzen - Sheahan - Pulkkinen
Jurco - Larkin - Mantha
(Bertuzzi - Athanasiou)

My god. Sheahan is totally missing from my stats. :D
