Not to completely hijack the thread but I am looking forward to seeing Jacob Trouba play since he's born and raised in Michigan. I doubt Paterson gets much IT but Ouellet is obviously going to be out there on the ice every time Canada is at a two man disadvantage.

According to TSN's Mark Masters Ouellet will play with Reilly tomorrow vs. Sweden. "Spott says d changes will take some strain off Ouellet, who is coming back from an ankle injury". Game is at 4PM local time which I think is 9AM eastern time.

Starting to wonder about this ankle injury. I really hope he doesn't get blamed for the loss if they don't have very good tournament. Interestingly, I have thought since they selected the team Canada has a very poor chance at gold if they lose a d-man at any time and have to play Murphy for a regular shift. I don't root for players to get hurt and certainly not Wings or Wings prospects, but as a Team USA fan, Canada cannot afford one of their better D-man going down, they brought a terrible 7th d-man that only offers a PP specialist and will pay dearly in my opinion if Murphy is playing more than five minutes of even strength.

After watching Murphy I can honestly say, no homer, that Sproul is way better than this kid. Murphy tries to be superman every time he has the puck, always trying to go end-to-end, never passes, and is just completely dumb. Sproul would've helped this team so much, he's exactly what they need

If somebody asked me to describe Murphy to them, I'd describe him as a kid who's trying to make the NBA, not the NHL. He's the spitting image of the modern day NBA player: wants to do it all himself, doesn't care about any sort of fundamentals, not really concerned with defense, etc. He plays for the highlight reel before anything else.

Finns beat US 5-2. Underwhelming performance by US. Stupid penalties, lazy play at times.. shooting Carter all the time.

Finns looked solid.

Canada playing Sweden in 30 minutes. Excited to see what Ouellet can do besides Rielly.

Finland looked very impressive, the USA really didn't show up, but credit to the Finns they jumped all over them.

Barkov was as good as advertised today, hugely impressive.

Jones was the USA player of the game not that anyone deserved that title. For a man his size his skating is unreal and his acceleration jumps out at you. He gets to top gear like an elite scoring winger. Two strides and he is in full flight.

Ouellet with the first goal for Canada. PP one at that.

He's playing on the second pairing with Reinhart, also the second PP unit with Morgan Reilly

They switch up a lot.. he's played with Wotherspoon as well

First period was consistent with the bottom 3 rotating, after that Spott decided to scrap what was working and play the worst forward from the first period (Murphy) in a top minutes role, defense seemed to struggle after that. And I only saw XO with Wotherspoon on one shift throughout the game (aside from slow changes for one of the defensemen of course)

Frk got a PP-assist in their win over Finland but really didn't show anything at all. I think he played on the 3rd line with Faksa and Beranek but their icetime wasn't very high 5on5. I still expect much more from him.

First assist was a beauty, really intelligent play.

Both were. Second was typical "nicklaslidström" weak wrister for tip-ins that Homer has put hundreds in. Really intelligent play from Ouellet to confuse the goalie.

Love this guy. Somebody had to step up and turn the game, and it was our gamebreaker who did it. 2-3 --> 4-3.

Frk played the left point at Czech "weird" 2nd PP unit. Defenceman Hrbas was used as screener.

I don't know was the Beranek - Faksa - Frk their 3rd or second line. They rolled is as the second after "Sedlaks" and Hertl's line came after them. But I think both of those 2nd/3rd played as much. 1st line was used pretty heavily and 4th quite less.

Is Ouellet really only 6'1? He looks really tall out there.

I heard 183cm which is 6'0

It looks like the Wings made out like bandits with Ouellett... How the heck did we get this guy?! Can he come up early?
It was also a good draft overall, I mean, had they not picked Ouellet, they would have taken e.g Harrington (who got picked 55th overall, played last year for canada as an under-ager, he's an equally good defenseman overall i'd say, would say slightly better defensively, not as good offensively though)

You have old information. Ouellet was 6'0 at draft, he has grown since.

There's just a perfect script for this Ouellet story. Ken Holland traded down and got this guy with that extra pick. And in my eyes, he is the most probable propect to be the next cornerstone of the franchise. There's all tools in him to be our next Norris-candidate.

IIRC he was 5' 11" when he was drafted and has since grown an inch.

WRONG.

http://www.redwingscentral.com/2011/06/27/2163/x-factor-ouellet-boosts-thin-blue-line/

The 6-foot, 174-pounder...

That article is made one month after the draft.

My guess is he has been 5'11 year before the draft or something.

If Jiri Fischer says he has grown an inch, and he has been 6'0 at the draft and guys are saying he looks taller than 6'1 guys at WJC... why argue against... "I know better than you!" ?

I think it's an eye-opener for many that Ouellet is outplaying a bunch of first round picks on the Canadian blue line. He looks really poised.
