What have Callahan, Ferraro or Glendening proven they're better at than Miller, except being younger?

He's grittier, a little better of a skater IMO, and has a pest quality.

Glendening has more qualities that I favor in a 4th liner than Miller. Miller is a useful player, but not what I like on my 4th line. Kings, Bruins, contending teams have no one like Miller on their 4th line. And that's not a coincidence.

I think Glendening has proven he can frustrate opponents into punching his face more than Miller can, but that isn't exactly something to get rid of Miller over.

If anything its just a good reason to have both on the 4th line.

Preferably the 13th and 14th forwards.

Because that's what happened last year. We haven't really addressed our defense at all. In fact, for the past few years it's been guys like Colaiacavo, Commodore, Huskins, Quincey, Salei. Serviceable stop-gap measures at best for the most part. Other than DD, no real decent moves on the back end.

I don't know if that'll change this year, I hope it does. But we've been saying it has to be "this year" for 2-3 years now, when Rafalski and Stuart were leaving and Lidstrom was about to leave.

Yep, rather than go cheap and try to add on a washed up 40 year old, let's go all in to sign Ehrhoff. An offensive, puck-moving defensemen has been our biggest need since Rafalski and Lidstrtom retired.

Give Ehrhoff a short term at a high dollar amount and that helps bridge the gap until our defensive prospects are ready to take over.

I'd take Glendening over Miller.

I wasn't a fan at first but by the end of the year Glendening was fantastic for his role. J

That was easily avoidable, though. Any of us could have avoided it. Just don't sign Cleary and last season is just another close-to-the-cap-but-still-have-wiggle-room kinda year. I meant more like having use the CBOs on guys on year 2 or 3 of 7 or 8 year deals worth ~$50M, or trading away guys for less than market value because they have albatross contracts. The Cleary thing last year sucked, but it was only for like 2 months, and we still made the playoffs. We aren't hurting for years to come because of it.

Or waive Samuelsson earlier... or Tootoo... or Emmerton.

... or leave a vastly superior player in the AHL simply because he can pass through waivers and they cannot.

Man that defense is scary bad.

If we can move Kindl and fill that spot somehow we can go

Kronner Smith
DD, Big E
Ouellet, Marchenko

That's way better than what we were icing in the playoffs.

Kronner, Smith
DD, Quincey
Kindl, Lashoff

Also that's not the roster were icing. No way Callahan is up with Jurco still in GR.

We very well could be looking at that, Unless Holland makes a splash with a trade.

Or Hossa. But yeah, Sharpie would be sweet. They can have Stone Hands Luke and Joker!

Hossa won't ever be traded because of the recapture risk. Same thing made Ehrhoff's trade value to zero. You have to keep that guy you signed with a tail-end contract or buy him out.

yup. that was guaranteed when they didn't buy him out... which was obvious too.

i'm only interested in sharp, don't care about wanna-be-patty-kane. but sharp is getting up there in age too and they can shed salary other ways. BR has declined so they need good wingers to support him. but sharpie is getting up there in age.
