We need a solid 22 minute a night RHD.
I take advantage of Kadri’s 2C status while it’s there.

Not to mention, if we have to sign Johnsson/Kapanen, we can’t afford a 4.5 million 3C.

The time to strike is the summer. Max value.
Don't think he's good enough to get you a solid top 4 RHD alone. They're in too high demand

Johnsson Matthews Kapanen
Hyman Tavares Nylander
Marleau Kadri Marner
Ennis Gauthier Moore/brown

Kadri and Marner had great chemistry last season. See if we can spread out scoring like Pittsburgh did a few years ago.

To add something to the discussion besides the garbage about his marriage, I don't understand why he's still playing the low slot on the top PP. He's a better playmaker than a shooter and should be on the half-wall on the 2nd unit. Tavares and Matthews should be rotating in and out of that spot on the top unit.

Kadri has the same amount of 1st assist as Connor Brown this season. Kadri does have 8 assist on the power-play. Connor Brown has 3 assist penalty-killing.
When he was playing with Komarov and Brown, it was Nylander who assisted on some of their goals, not their very own center.
He's one of 5 forwards who manages slightly more hits per game then Ennis. Having someone tough like that on Toronto is a rare thing. There's not a lot of better options for that position.

AJ

Ennis

Biggest problems with our forward group. Not saying they are bad players in all cases, but they are not the right players for this team.

Kappy AM WN
Hy JT MM

Figure out the rest.

To add, if that solid RHD comes with an equivalent cap hit... it’s not going to work.

We need to start thinking in terms of picks/prospects.

I’m not sure who hacked @stickty111 ’s account but whomever is correct.

Nylander has more potential. Kadri is on the downside of the curve.

We saw the start of that trend last year.

Again, Kadri was playing at a near PPG pace over 35 games to finish the season last year. He is not on the down swing yet.

Nylander has yet to show he can play better than peak Kadri

That's the thing. Nonis/Burke 100% trade Nylander to keep the older Kadri.

Correct!

Peak Kadri: 61 points
Peak Nylander: Check back in 6 years, but as a 20 and 21 year old, 61 points.

But goals?!?

Kadri 32 goals, Nylander 22 however Marner 25, van Riemsdyk 36.

1. How about the 20 games before that? Nylander had more PPG over the 82 game stretch... @ 20 years old.

2. Peak Kadri is long gone. Peak Kadri can't play better than Peak Gilmour but what the hell does that matter for the 2019-20 season? Are we playing based on nostalgia?

We need to start thinking in terms of picks/prospects.
We need a legit top 4 RHD that can play 22 minutes a night successfully.

Rielly (5) + RHD Partner (4 or 5)
Muzzin (4) could be Z or Dermott or Lily or cheaper other.

Like Chicago has with Keith,Seabrook,Hammer. That’s your core.
Keep Zaitsev or find a cheaper alternative.
Dermott/Lily/Rosen come in. Need about 20/25 million.

Goalie 5 + backup

We are going to spend about 44/45 million on the top 6.
LW...Matthews...Nylander (21 mil?)
Hyman...Tavares...Marner (23 mil?)

We either move Marleau or wait him out 1 year.
Regardless, the “bottom” 6 needs to be cheap.
Marleau...Kadri...Kapanen (10 million?) way too much. We have about 10 million for the entire bottom 6 + spare.

I like the way Tampa Bay preemptively recycles it's players. Ben Bishop was traded to LA for Cernak and picks when he was approaching UFA and not likely to return. Drouin was traded for a top prospect in Sergachev instead of targeting any specific team need.

If we move Kadri, I hope we go for something that brings back a ton of futures which can then be brought along with Bracco, Sandin and Liljegren to form the next cap relief wave.

Kadri is a pretty good deal, but I'll be very impressed if the Leafs can keep Kadri and sign their UFA and RFA players.

Dubas's plan is his "core" all get blank checks, write in whatever they feel they deserve, and the rest will fight over table scraps.

So far so good. We're almost done with the "core" and they haven't objected to the plan. Then on to the scraps.

Kapanen and Johnsson should sign short deals to get to UFA as quickly as possible.
