Igor Shesterkin | MHK Spartak (MHL)
Born: Dec. 30, 1995 | 2013-14 stats: 23 GP, 1.42 GAA, .947 SV%

The Moscow native really turned heads last spring with a dominant IIHF under-18 tournament performance for Russia, and had his second straight great season in Russia's primary junior league. Shesterkin is a fun goaltender to watch because of his high-end athletic abilities and all of the tough stops he can make. He has quick feet, allowing him to make dynamic lateral moves. His reactions are also a plus, and he has the ability to make some of the more difficult stops with his glove. His reads are solid, with good flashes here and there, but he can still work on some of the finer details. Shesterkin can stand to bulk up his 6-0, 183-pound frame in order to fill up more of the net, but his upside is significant if he hits.

Again, god forbid we address an organizational need. We had what, one goalie prospect before this draft? Hank won't be around forever, gotta start looking forward.

Rangers have been scouting him for months. Very unorthodox goalie has some Hasek in him.

Let him play in the KHL for a few years and come over when he's physically ready. No hurry.

With our weaknesses pretty much every where else and Hank locked up for 7 more years, more goalies didn't come to mind yet.

When Mackenzie Skapski is the ONLY goalie prospect in your system who has any chance of maybe hoping to one day play in the NHL for a few games, you need to address that need. Good on the Rangers for picking these guys. All you need is one to pan out.

His name has come up before with the Rangers. Not surprised. The only other name I remember being talked about with the Rangers was Scherbak.

Didn't think the Rangers, or any team had it in them to take this guy as he was barely seen, but having said that, he's probably the best goalie in the draft, so kudos for taking him.
