What Makes a Prospect?
A player will be considered a prospect until he meets the following criteria:
If a prospect is a skater (forward, defenseman) and has played in 65 NHL games or more before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday; or, if a goaltender has played in 45 NHL games before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday, that player will be considered graduated to the NHL. Conversely, if a player completes the season of his 24th birthday without passing those milestones, then that player will no longer be considered a prospect by Hockey’s Future, regardless of the player’s status with his NHL club.

An NCAA player who signs his first contract at or above the age of 22 has three years to meet the above criteria (65/45), while those NCAA players that turn pro under the age of 22 will be subjected to the criteria above.

European players who sign their first NHL contract at or above the age of 22 have three seasons from the time they sign that contract to meet the above criteria. Those European players below the age of 22 that have signed a NHL contract will be subjected to the criteria in section one.

NOTE: These are general guidelines and should be followed the majority of the time but certain players may still be listed as prospects if circumstances warrant.

Quite amazing as a Rangers fan to see so many promising prospects when we’re traditionally focused on one or two players. Speaking of one or two players, Sean Day - smh, talk about an underachiever.

Should be interesting what’s added or subtracted come the deadline and in the near future.

good list and thanks

A bunch of people will pretend their previous posts, including those about nepotism, never happened.

They will then become enraged when those posts are quoted and brought back to life. ;)
Well, and I know we're joking around here and busting my balls, but the reality is that even if he turned into a halfway decent prospect, that wouldn't really change anything about my suggestions that nepotism played a role. It would show that maybe nepotism isn't always bad? But it's hardly irrefutable evidence that it didn't exist.

Anyway, hopefully everyone that knows me also knows I'm the first to call myself out in instances where I was wrong. :)

Wasn't aimed at anyone in particular, just remember the overall conviction displayed for the subject and some of the more...interesting...theories floated out there.

What is everyones feeling on Raddysh? Good numbers in Hartford, only 23. does he have a chance to make the NHL?

Was just getting ready to ask about crawley and day. Are they done as prospects?

Raddysh is super solid across the board. I don't expect he'll ever become a regular NHL defenseman, but I would be pretty surprised if he doesn't get a few cups of coffee. Maybe even later in the season.

not a bad return at all, for a trade generated by a one-time waiver pickup
Fall'17 NYR claims Cracknell
Fall'17 Cracknell for Holland
Spring'19 Holland for Raddysh
so CBH could add depth up front for their AHL franchise's playoff run ...

FWIW I know no one is taking shots at me. :)

Just clarifying my belief that the nepotism thing is independent from whether or not Kjellberg becomes something decent.

Honestly, let's hope he does. I never root against our kids, and Kjellberg is no different. I hope the finishes the season at a PPG.

Crawley is about to be 23, unless he can stick in the AHL and really look good next year, he'll be done. I never thought he was a real prospect, and thought he was ECHL-caliber last year.

Day is a year younger so he gets a little more leeway, but there's just not a lot there. The skating is still good, he has some decent feel for the puck on his stick, but overall he just thinks and operates too slowly. Hard to improve that. I mean theoretically it could improve with experience, but I don't know if that's happening for him. He looked the same this year in the AHL as he did last year.

not sure who the best person to ask but Day is clearly going in the wrong direction. His stats are still mediocre too. The kid skates so well and has a solid frame yet it doesn’t appear the dots connect in his head.

I really don't much like drafting project defensemen that aren't particularly good skaters. Guys like Zborovskiy, Crawley, Ragnarsson, Sjalin, and Gross face such an uphill battle to transition to the NHL.

I'd much rather use long shot defenseman picks on guys like Day, Keane, Walcott, or Reunanen. Guys that aren't already labelled as a "defensive defenseman" in their junior leagues.

If we're going to draft a "defensive defenseman", then give me a guy with enough ability to go higher in the draft, like Robertson.
