I think a kind of point is being missed here. It's not all about where Klein and McIlrath are now--it's also about where they're going to be in April. Klein is a known quantity. He's not going to be a better player come April. McIlrath OTOH is a still improving player and just seeing where he's at from last training camp to this--there's been a very noticeable improvement. If McIlrath is ready to go as an NHL player I'd rather go with him for now and the longer term even if it meant moving Klein to another team

Going forward Klein's days are numbered. Even if he makes it through this year as a Ranger he has cap casualty written all over him. The Rangers save anywhere between $1.5 and $2 mil next year keeping McIlrath instead---money that we're going to need with big contracts like Yandle's and Kreider's coming up.

You keep saying that much cap tied between two people is bad when its really not because these guys can win with just two of them.

Guess Duncan Keith don't count...

also the people that they now had to lose, Sharp, Richards, Saad, Odyua, Vermette... thats like another 50 points in the playoffs

Dead Walrus-Toews-Kane
Kreider-Brassard-Zuccarello
Miller-Hayes-Etem
Stalberg-Moore-Fast

Skjei replaces Staal

I say the dead walrus puts up 50 points

And this lineup wins the cup for the next 6 years

until Miller, Hayes, Kreider, Skjei Raanta all want raises

So, not. You just spent the cap space needed to extend Kreider, Hayes, Miller and Etem to get Kane and Toews on this team.

Swapped out 3 players with 3 players.

Has nothing to do with how those 4 get raises.

Those 4 have to get raises whether it's Kane/Toews/Dead Walrus that get 21 mil or Stepan/Nash/Staal that get 21 mil.

How do two grown men miss simple logic?

Swapping 21 million worth of contracts with another 21 million worth of contracts in no way affects how we are going to give those guys raises.

Yes, it does. Because moving Staal and replacing him with Skjei is actually the most suggested option to free up cap-space for Kreider and Hayes. But in your proposal, that cap space has been assigned to Toews and Kane already

Sharp is godawful Odyua is worse then Klein vermette sucks you said it your self. And TT will replace Richards and some of saads points .

And that kid they traded for is going to be great along with AA they will do just fine and probably win another cup with a subpar Goalie.

It does because if you have the 21 million spread over the three players you have more room to move and trade and make cap room... having it in two guys limits those options

He is but its more focused on the Forwards.

If you lose some of those players then you end up like those Washington teams where OV was the main offensive catalyst... the right Dmen will shut them down and no it is focused on the players and whether 21 million is a good idea to invest into two guys and only two guys
