Exactly. That is why you have to continually feed the prospect pipeline. Skjei reminds me of where McDonaugh was after 2 years of playing in college. He is doing the same thing McD, focusing on the defensive side of his game. With his wheels and big heavy shot the offense will come naturally. Like McD I do not think we can lose if he goes back for a third year.

I think Skjei going back is a plus. Less hockey, less mileage and more time in the weight room to mature physically.

It's taken Dylan McIlrath 4 years to grow into his body and he can still put on another 5 lbs. Playing pro style schedule makes it tougher to put on muscle mass.

For Skjei, he can be physically mature 3 years out of his draft year as opposed to 4 or more. A stint in the AHL next year and he should be ready to push for a spot. Doesn't matter if the offense comes or not, but if he can defend and be big body presence with his skating ability, he is a top 6 defenseman for sure.
